Non year 12 airlines

Gidday.

Trolling through some old post it appears I'm in the same boat with many who have dropped out of school at an early age to find that year 12 HSC be a requirement....or an approved bridging course.

I've spent the last 12 months knocking over the ATPLs and thinking about heavy turboprops and jets for the next step.

I've read that alliance don't require year 12 in a older post, are the any others such as Rex/Virgin/Jet-star that might be an option for direct entry FO?

Working full time to pay a mortgage and a family and taking a few months off for bridging isn't really an option for me ATM.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't think virgin needs year 12, might have changed recently but never used to.

Most if not all of the smaller regionals don't require it.

A few guys were doing bridging courses by distance through Charles Darwin univeristy in Darwin back in the day.

I believe their English course is qantas approved. Their maths used to be, but not anymore. You can do a qantas approved maths course via distance through quite a few service providers.

If you jump on the qantas mainline recruitment page for pilots there is all the info you need there.

Jetstar, virgin, tiger, alliance, and network don't require it.

QantasLink and Qantas mainline do.

University of Newcastle offer a Graduate Certificate in Aviation Management by distance over 12-24 months(full or part time). You need a few years industry experience and ATPL credits for entry. Graduate certificate comes after a undergrad degree which trumps the Y12 requirements and is listed on the Qantas/QLink recruitment pages as acceptable.

A fella I know did not have year 12, only year 10 passes.

He applied for an Australian Airline about 8 years ago (sorry, can't name which one, I am sure you understand).

On the part about year 12 pass marks, he typed/wrote "available on request".

They never asked and he never provided "on request".

He has been a Captain for a couple of years now, I suggest you do the same!

Smile

It's been a while, but I think you need to provide a copy of your year 12 (or equivalency) with your initial app to Qantaslink.

Therefore, "on request" would not progress your incomplete app.

VA did not require year 12 when I applied. I was quite happy about that Not sure whether this still applies.
