I've just checked Essendon Airport's website. Same ASIC rules airside there too.

Yes majorca, lets all just live in a seemingly never-ending state of fear, under rules that have f-all practical benefit and which are simply 'we are doing something' knee-jerk reactions to very low probability events.
Security is important, but make it meaningful and at places that actually warrant it.

An ASIC is out of date the day it is issued, because it only means that one has not become of concern to ASIO/AFP/et all prior to that date.
It is not a guarantee of future good behavior hence the effing 2-year validity duration.

A society based on fear can only function in the short-term., it will not prosper.

Same old story, you still need an AVID, they both cost money and don't last long and you still forget to renew both of them.

Moorabbin had an exemption for many years but, despite the efforts of airport management, they lost it a few years ago (when I got my first ASIC) so ASICs required everywhere airside. I have seen AFP checking ASICs there.

IIRC, the 'Blue Line' RPT area at YMMB was deleted, and the whole airport declared "Security Controlled"

In a nutshell you need an ASIC, and the CASA website is out of date/incorrect once again...

Keep in mind CASA are still talking about a Student Pilot licence, and all the other licences on the site. Appears they were as ready for P61 as the rest of the industry

ASICS

Potentially the issuing of so many ASICs actually leads to an increased security risk. I would suggest that 10 percent of ASICs never get returned. There would be many of these UNEXPIRED cards that have returned to various destinations within Australia and importantly, around the world. I have written on two occasions to seek a response from the relevant body on the statistics. On both occasions the response to my query has been sidestepped. Of course they won't respond, the results would be too embarrassing. Prior to the requirement for us ALL to have an ASIC, I suggest there was not one, unexpired ASIC overseas. Great system. Costs us millions, requires more Government Departments and opens up more issues than it resolves. I would like to see someone from the Government stand up and publicly state that there are "less than 100 unexpired unaccounted for ASICs, and that of those unexpired unaccounted for ASICs none of them are outside of Australia." Yeah Right!!!

ASICs are a bit like the locks on your home, front and back doors. Those locks make you feel safe when you go to bed or leave home.

But they are completely useless to protect you from the bad guys or gals who may want to really harm you.
