i want to fit skiis to the aircraft and land on the snow, but sadly, this being the land of not fun, it will never happen, might hurt a rare blade of grass thats under 2 mtres of snow but its ok to drive a tracked vehicle over it!,
also, where is this Snowy Mountains airstrip mentioned?

Permission to land is highly unlikey in this nanny state but it is in the middle of bloody nowhere. Used for firefighting in summer and on a blustery day could well be the undoing of some.
I'm about to go cruising through here in a month or so chasing power lines in a chopper. Looking forward to the scenery, but not the cold or turbulence.
Is the snowy river airport you guys have mentioned the one at Cunnamulla?

I know of the strip at Khancoban, permission needed and easily obtained from snowy hydro, and the stip at Island Bend, now dissused, just down from the Guthega part of the Perisher resort, now that would be fun to land at, also makes a great camp site if you want a cheap ski trip, another strip at Cabramurra, again, disused, was once used by the RAAF caribous for high alt training. they are still in good condition and could easily be opened to fire fighting and emergency use.
there is also private but open to public strip at Adaminaby.
Ahh ok, in the Victorian alps? sadly dont know of any strips in that area except of Hotham, and Bright.
there is also private but open to public strip at Adaminaby.

Snowy Ranges Airstrip viewed from Google Earth. It's about 1 Nm south of Arbuckle. Prior permission is required.
Last time I flew in, they had facilities but they weren't allowed for public use.
Have fun and enjoy
