C'mon guys! - Ya get a few blokes showing off their superior daredevil and machine control skills - and you lot get all conchy and righteous and PC about it!

Ya gotta remember, these blokes are practicing for an upcoming amazing bushfire rescue, or for prime roles in a new action TV series!!
Cruise and all the other hero actors are proud of 'em! - they're doing all the stunt work themselves!

CASA won't do anything about it.
Actual safety issues in GA don't get a look in.
Not so sure about that, ask Quadrio. Also the Australian taxpayer was relieved of several million dollars thanks to Fort Fumbles obsession to pursue him to hell and back
The reality is that although this was a stupid act, the biggest risk was to the two buffoons hanging off the skids and the Nimrod flying the bird (and perhaps a cow or two). Should it go unpunished, no. Should precious manpower and millions be spent on chasing these goons, no. Tis a conundrum.

Somebody earlier mentioned mitigating against the risks with this little act of stupidity......the single best and most effective mitigating strategy is:
DON'T DO IT!

Cactusjack, there have been some serious offences noted in this foolishly-videoed episode. By the time the NSW EPA has finished with this pack of littering crims, they'll have to sell the Ferrari to pay the littering fines.

NSW Litter Laws:

"The littering offences are:

littering (including littering from vehicles): depositing litter on land or waters in a public place or an open private place
aggravated littering: littering which is reasonably likely to cause or contribute to appreciable danger or harm to any persons, animals, premises or property
depositing, or causing someone to deposit, advertising material in a public place or open private place other than in a mail box or under a door
depositing, or causing someone to deposit, advertising material on any vehicle.
The littering fines applicable to these offences are:

a single fine for littering has been replaced with a tiered range of fines
$60 for littering with small items, such as bottle tops and cigarette butts
$200 for general littering, and for littering from vehicles
$400 for littering from a vehicle (corporations)
$375 for aggravated littering which threatens public safety or the environment, such as intentionally breaking glass or depositing lit cigarette butts during fire seasons
$750 for aggravated littering (corporations)
littering on private land will be better regulated
from 1 April 2001 it will be illegal for advertising material to be placed under car windscreen wipers, on property gates or fences, and other inappropriate areas where it has the potential to become litter."

Looks like CAsA has noticed.

This is going to get interesting.

Personally, I don't have a huge problem with it. It looks like they planned and possibly rehearsed it. They were never high, and it was on private land. It might have been a dumb bogan act, but if we stopped every dumb bogan act ......

But, CASA are in a world of trouble if they treat this pilot any differently than John Quadrio. (search the thread and read it if you are not familiar). One of the major things they got John on was hovering " dangerously" . The testimony of CASA's expert witnesses was specific and detailed. I can't see that this hover is any different. If they let this pilot off, then the John Quadrio case MUST be re-opened. If CASA are consistent, this pilot has got to lose his licence or alternatively CASA must relent on John Quadrio.

I also suspect that the farm might be deemed a workplace. There might be a whole world of pain with work cover as well.

A CASA representative has already appeared on television stating that the stunt was dangerous and that should the engine fail, the hangers-on would be squashed. Sounds like reckless endangerment coming up to me.

I wonder how long it will be, before these people who carry out idiotic manoeuvres - and who then video them and post them publically for all to see - will suddenly be on the receiving end of an email or SMS, from their insurer - stating that their insurance has been withdrawn, forthwith - due to unlawful activities being performed, that were not mentioned on their insurance application form??

With current trends, I don't reckon it will be very long.

Aah yes...the "if" syndrome

This is CAsA's ace up the sleeve.!! The danger! the danger ! Ooh aah.

IF the engine failed..think of the consequences. Flat bogans....so !

IF he crashed into a kindergarten...think of the kiddies...and this was a light aircraft they were on about. Consider the A 380.! Oh, no issue with Qantas..that's all right then.

And in the JQ case it was IF the mast /blades departing due to his "aerobatics" as defined by some CAsA plonker...Oh the potential disaster and terror of it all.
Why dont CAsA just convince the Minister/miniscule that GA is SO dangerous just close down the lot. ( they're working on it)

May I suggest all CAsA people, please just remain indoors at home. IF they drive to work they might be victim of a traffic accident, tram strike, whatever.
Its a very dangerous world out there

ps..and JQs "flight video" ( if it was his) was sent to the Robbo manufacturers...and they had no problem with it.

pps..someone mentioned 'consistency'...uh oh... this is CAsa we're talking about, remember.

Gee whiz troops; not sure that you can be found guilty of being 'reckless' to yourself. You'd need expert evidence that the video was kosher; no expert, but have a close look, there are some interesting 'continuity' gaffs, small but noticeable (watch the over ocean bit and watch the muscle stress lines). It's a bit too 'artificial' and contrived for my tastes. TIMA9X seems to have a clue about 'video' and camera shop works, perhaps we should ask. You've all seen movies and know what can be done with a 'blue screen' and a clever computer, remember Lord of the Rings and remember how easily fooled by the magic of the silver screen we all are. The bottle drop was disgusting, for that, no mercy. Off with their heads.

Two bob spent, budget balanced.....

You are right Kharon; with a bit of effort you could fake such a video... I like the bit where they are zooming along in the Ferrari and then they drive the Ferrari out of a river (look closely) towards the camera.

If they did fake it they would need to keep the evidence at hand for their defence which would likely cost money to even get CASA to accept the evidence.

The RAA once took a pilot certificate off an aircraft importer who faked a video , thus removing his income and another pilot was reprimanded by CASA for faking a photo of his aircraft flying in close proximity to the Sydney Harbour bridge.

This sort of action, photo shopped or not is what CASA expect of us all. We are all criminals just waiting to be caught. These clowns just make it worse for us all. There were probably Tiger Sharks in the dam as sell. Nobody, including The Greens give a rat's anymore.

XXX a'yup; the car - dam (no ripples) road no 'tracks' and a lack of moisture on the bloody awful yellow paint job is 'suss'. But have a look at the 1.30 – 1.35 segment, blink and you'd miss it but look carefully. The bit with a beach becoming a dam 1.12 is 'passing strange'. I wonder what these boys were fishing for and who paid 'em to go?.

Kharon, you may be correct, but none of that stopped CASA in the Quadrio case. In The Quadrio case it wasn't even certain that he was the pilot and the published video was constructed from video over a number of flights.

I see this as a carbon copy of the Quadrio case and I think CASA will stir up a Hornet's nest if they don't treat the two consistently. Either CASA pulls this guys licence, or relents on John Quadrio or open CASA opens itself up to new allegations of persecution of John.

Here is the AAT hearing documents for John Quadrio's case

Quadrio and Civil Aviation Safety Authority [2011] AATA 709 (12 October 2011)

John's "acrobatic" manoeuvre was a turnaround to land into wind. you can see choppers do this most days of the week at heliports.

The other things they pursued him on was reckless flying and low flying - particularly a low hover over water. There were no eye witnesses - just the video evidence and the evidence of CASA expert witnesses. From memory, you could photocopy the testimony of these expert witnesses and submit as evidence against this pilot.

CAsA would rather swim up a river of **** with their mouths open rather than reverse the Quadrio decision. And let's be honest, the Quadrio 'incident' is completely different to the antics of the NT orange whirlybird.
My understanding is that Quadrio does have have enough in his armoury to reignite his cause, and he has the coin too, but the energy and willpower is zapped. In other words there are more important less time consuming things to do with his life. It's a pity, though, I for one would love to see him robustly start squeezing CAsA's little testicles once again. He certainly had the beasts cage rattled

From Kilgore to Wild Hogs, this is what you do with a Chooper

I don't see that.

My recollection is that they got John on Low flying by reference to other objects in the video. You can do the same here by reference to trees and a machinery shed. They also went into huge detail about hover heights & forward speed. The hover heights were estimated (by CASA) based on features like waves from the video. Once again, I think the same applies. Thirdly they got him on reckless flying
the taking of unnecessary risks with the safety of the passengers on the flight
. In John's case the passengers were correctly belted in assigned seats. If John Quadrio took unnecessary risks with his passengers, then this pilot is gone for all money. ---- That is if CASA applies the regulations evenly to all pilots.

Old Akro, sorry mate but I don't agree.
And I notice that you base your assumption of Quadrio's 'guilt' on CAsA's determination and ruling, and if you believe or accept that you will always come to an incorrect personal conclusion.
No disrespect to ya Akro, but these two incidents are very much chalk and cheese, and anything that comes out of CAsA's mouth is worth sending to Luggage Point.

The bit with a beach becoming a dam
I don't see that as beach, I think its just open dirt at the edge of the dam.

I think they have driven up a driveway to a paddock area near a machinery shed, grabbed the chopper, then flown at maybe 10 - 25 ft altitude (below tree line - above machinery shed height & good clearance of the guys hanging from skids to the fences) across maybe 2 paddock fences to a dam that might be (at a guess) 300 - 500m away. It may be the dam that is visible as the Ferrari comes up the driveway. It may not be all that hard to find on google earth.

If you look at the people spaced out between the Ferrari & chopper, it looks like it has been thought through & planned (I use the term thought loosely). At least 3 video cameras have been used (someone on the ground, helmet cam and guy in the rear seat).

You guys with your photoshop theories are drunk.

1. they don't drive out of a dam, have a look - there is a bridge across the dam.

2. there is no ocean - its just the edge of a "tidy" dam.

3. are you telling me the cabin shot where the camera looks left and right at dumb and dumber is not real. - or when it is about 10 ft off the dam and they are clearly hanging from the skids

4. there ARE ripple marks on the water from rotors.

All this stuff is academic anyway - they are just a pair of dumb arse lebos and the pilot should be shot for just hangin with lebos.
