Australia's Cyclone Hunters

David Reade in Canada is writing a book on worldwide weather reconnaissance flights. The Australian chapter is available as a PDF on David's website:

http://p-3publications.com/PDF/CycloneHunters.pdf

David is keen to hear from anyone who was involved in any weather research flights. You can contact him via his website:

P-3 Publications

Alternatively you can post responses here and I'll make sure David sees them.

Rgds

Mods: Hope this is ok as he's not selling anything yet.

I wonder if it would be this Orion? This photo was taken in 1979 at Darwin Airport.

Yes Kanga

That's the Project Stormfury WP-3D Orion N42RF which also operated in Qld in 1979.

Seems to remember a picture of that Orion and some wx research commentary in a thread a couple of years ago? Might be something to look for.

I flew on it ex-TVL in 1979 chasing a cyclone in the Coral Sea. Lots of fun and incredible gear [for its day] on board including a vertical looking radar in the tail stinger area.
