On the completion of a full time AME theory course you DO NOT need to be employed as an apprentice at all! You CAN be employed as one but you dont have to.
You just need to get a job where you can log enough relevant and range of experiences in your skills log to satisfy the minimums stipulated for that MEA***, range and variable. Once you gain enough you can get assessed buy an Australian Aerospace Assessor, then attend with your Transcripts of academic records from your training provider and your Skills log with the relevant MEA's assessed as competent to the provider and you will be issued a the Cert IV in aeroskills.
This is good for guys who want to dual trade i.e Structures/Mechanical or Mechanical/Avionics.
The core units (MEA1**) are already completed so there is no need to redo these Aeroskills common units.

Widewoodenwingswork. I wish I had the answer, unfortunately I don't. But I employ a number of apprentices in various callings and other employers have also confirmed that in their opinion none of these new training arrangements compare to the quality and ability that follows a four year traditional apprenticeship.
Cert IV and apprentices
On the completion of a full time AME theory course you DO NOT need to be employed as an apprentice at all -
INCORRECT at least in QLD and WA.
In both these states the Cert IV in Aeroskills is listed as an apprenticeship qualification under which students can only be enrolled AFTER they are endentured as an apprentice with an employer - in thier state (NSW apprentice cannot opt to go to a QLD training provider. Hence why so many "full time AME course" students are left in limbo.
See QLD link here:
Certificate IV in Aeroskills (Avionics): Queensland Training Information Service (QTIS)
And WA here:
Course - Endorsement
In WA the VET act classifier A indicates apprenticeship only.

Progressive seems right which is a massive blow for those trained out of the big schools in Queensland . Those people need to learn they will have to move out of Queensland to find that elusive apprenticeship. Colleges need to be more upfront about students job chances after training.
