ALA's around canberra
I'm considering the purchase of a Sport Cruiser to allow me to communute on a weekly basis between Tamworth NSW and Canberra, ACT.
I have been investigating landing sites without much luck.
Goulburn appears to be out due excessive private fees.
Does anyone know if there are ultralight or LSA landing areas around the Canberra area?

There is a couple of private ones on the map; Hall to the north west and Tralee south. I know Hall is active, but know nothing of Tralee.
More public (AFAIK) are Cooma and Polo Flat farther south.

There's a private strip at Winderadene (sp?) at the northern end of Lake George between the highway and the escarpment.
Many years ago I know the property owner used to fly a Cessna between there and another property further west (Cootamundra?).

Currandooley Airstrip is about 9km NE of Bungendore off Tarago Rd. Looks to be about 2000ft with a windsock.

Thanks to another poster on a different thread (copied above) I landed here and it is a great little strip, plenty of of length and good surface. There is a hangar (twas locked) and a yard to lock your plane away from the stock. I got permission by searching Currandooley, found the owner on the first call and he was happy to give me permission to land. Sorry I never kept his contact details but it should be easy to find again with some diligence.

Excellent, thank you to all.
You have helped immeasurably. Love living in Oz!
I just hope that one of these will be suitable and might even allow me to erect a small hangar........

I don't believe Tralee is active, last time I went out there (3 years ago) it was full of rabit holes, and there were problems with vandals etc (some aircraft were torched a while back).
There was an old C170 parked out there that would probably never fly again (I went to see if it was worth making an offer on).. looks like it's still there according to google maps.

The aforementioned strip at Winderadene is located on GE at 34°56'20.33"S, 149°24'42.51"E
It's marked as 'Collector 2', but is a private strip. I drove past last week and couldn't see the windsock from the road, so I'm not sure how 'active' the runway still is.

Thanks FoxAlphs. At least there are options for me to chase up.
Still considering buying some land and building my own. Might just be simpler?
