Full story here.

PS There are /were rumours of a house close to the threshold on the approach to R23 at ADL whose owner had painted "F***K OFF" on the roof - no doubt as a gesture of delight at the somewhat irregular air shows which he / she was privileged to experience.

Stikybeke, you sure had me thrown with the "JESUS LIVES" being seen when on a commercial flight out of YADL. I'd never heard of that AD before so I checked ERSA. Adele Island ALA in WA. Unlikely terrain, I thought from the photo.

I think that you meant YPAD..

During the big nationwide advertising campaign of the early 80s that was all over the media you had the 'LIFE BE IN IT' slogan everywhere.

A farmer even
started writing it with his header through his sparse looking (seasons had been bad) crop a few miles out of Cowra.

Only what he really started to write before he hit the fence and had to stop short was -

LIFE BE BUGGE . .. . .

Square Bear, please don't take offence! The comment was made with my
tongue planted firmly in my cheek. Stickybeke is a welcome
contributor to PPRuNe. But I haven't noticed any of your contributions before.

So, have you ever been a pilot? Which, I understand, means that one has
actually flown an aircraft solo? I have.

If you were flying a GA a/c equipped with a (say GNS-430) Nav/Com/GPS, and entered YADL direct to fly to Adelaide you would be in big trouble.

And that's why this sort of detail is rather important.

Gerry, You must be a ball of laughs to have a beer with. A good grasp of the big picture I see. And good on you for going Solo. We are all very proud.

I wanna know who this guy Jesus is, I here a lot he 'lives' so where the hell is he these days? I know he was a pilot as I have heard is name many times in the cockpit especially when things aren't going too well

Gerry I think most prudent drivers would not blindly track direct to anywhere unless it made sense especially distance wise.
GPS's are fantastic contraptions but unfortunately they have made a whole new generation of out of the loop and lazy pilots in some ways.

No offence taken at all.

Am just glad for this thread, never "paxed" that often out of YADL so was unaware of the photo op, appreciate stickybekes kind suggestion of what side of the aircraft I should sit on.

I understand that there is also a similar type deal near YASP ,
That being the YASP that is to the north of YADL.

Cheers

VH-AES - one of the more sedate but still beautiful machines in the sky at the 2013 Avalon airshow.

Hey guys,

Thanks for your support but Gerry's right, YPAD it is...I should've known better but like I said, the pre-flight refreshments got the better of me!!!!! Happens every time!!

No offence whatsoever taken aside from that as self inflicted by yours truly for a period of 2 or 3 minutes. You'll be pleased to hear that I'm a wiser person for the experience and all better now...
