I'm not sure how its possible to hold a position that councils don't require consent for airstrips on rural zoned land.

All councils operate under local environment plans which is written into the law of NSW. To my knowledge only two LGA's in NSW dont require consent for airstrips. Other states may be different. Here's Albury council's requirements for example:

Zone RU1 Primary Production
1 Objectives of zone
• To encourage sustainable primary industry production by maintaining and enhancing the natural resource base.
• To encourage diversity in primary industry enterprises and systems appropriate for the area.
• To minimise the fragmentation and alienation of resource lands.
• To minimise conflict between land uses within this zone and land uses within adjoining zones.
2 Permitted without consent
Environmental protection works; Extensive agriculture; Home-based child care; Home occupations; Intensive plant agriculture
3 Permitted with consent
Bed and breakfast accommodation; Dual occupancies; Dwelling houses; Extractive industries; Farm buildings; Farm stay accommodation; Group homes; Intensive livestock agriculture; Landscaping material supplies; Open cut mining; Plant nurseries; Roads; Roadside stalls; Rural workers’ dwellings; Secondary dwellings; Any other development not specified in item 2 or 4
4 Prohibited
Air transport facilities; Amusement centres; Camping grounds; Car parks; Caravan parks; Cemeteries; Child care centres; Commercial premises; Correctional centres; Crematoria; Depots; Eco-tourist facilities; Educational establishments; Entertainment facilities; Exhibition homes; Exhibition villages; Freight transport facilities; Function centres; Health services facilities; Heavy industrial storage establishments; Home occupations (sex services); Industrial retail outlets; Industrial training facilities; Industries; Information and education facilities; Livestock processing industries; Marinas; Mooring pens; Mortuaries; Passenger transport facilities; Places of public worship; Port facilities; Recreation facilities (indoor); Registered clubs; Residential accommodation; Respite day care centres; Restricted premises; Service stations; Sex services premises; Storage premises; Tourist and visitor accommodation; Truck depots; Vehicle body repair workshops; Vehicle repair stations; Warehouse or distribution centres; Wharf or boating facilities; Wholesale supplies

'Air transport facilities" .... includes an airstrip

A better example would have been any of those LEP's which require consent for airstrips, but you can see, its written into legislation.

If there is a way to eliminate council's authority in this area I'd be very interested to hear of it.

In Victoria, and I think the rest of Australia, council permission is not required for the land owner to operate his own private fixed wing aircraft ( I've heard that helicopters are different) from his own private land. The constitution and Harley Davidsons have been mentioned in this regard.
In my experience, it is hard to get this ruling from the council, perhaps because they lack experience in this area, but when tested, the outcome has been proven to be as above.
I would be very interested to hear from anyone who has tried this and been stopped.

There is no doubt that permission is required to start up any sort of aerodrome which might be open to the public or involve many different aircraft.

This has been discussed before google legal question flying from private property.

Our very own WW2 fighter - not exactly sleek, but still nice to look at and listen to when flown through a well constructed routine .....

Sitting quietly on the sidelines at Temora (6th June '15). It wasn't on the program, but we dared to hope that it might be an unscheduled inclusion.

'Twould look very nice in a low pass .....

Still, it looks fast - even on the ground .....

Time to up load some photos

My mate just got his instrument rating, he was keen to fly IFR so we went went up to Echuca and had a great Roast Lunch at the club.

The journey home was pretty special...Thanks to ATC who gave us our clearance right over YMML, my mate thought it was pretty special to get this on his second IFR flight as PIC

A perfect way to end the day

Caught up with some mates yesterday. Flew home cruising IFR on top as the Sun set.

A great way to end the daylight hours...

this really is where the certification system fails.

My TAA. tech advanced aircraft panel soon to be installed

not 1, but 3 totally independent PFD's, with 3 totally independent AHRS units. all with 3 independent battery backups giving an extra 2 hours life if all power goes. and 2 independent pitot static systems.

but try putting it in something certified...

I don't think I'd want to be flying an RNAV with an iPad, don't care if there's 10 of them in the cockpit.

why not? is it due to the ipads themselves? or the GPS receivers? which are remote from both the Ipads, and provide their data via the AHRS units in the back. using both GPS and GLONASS systems.
Would you trust the MGL Xtreme EFIS and its systems? or Garmin systems?

im not trying to be a smartarse or anything, genuinely curious as to why people prefer to use some systems over others, (im studying the human factors in advanced aircraft flight deck operations at the moment)

What if the ipad setup was installed using professionally made aviation wire looms, using cannon type plugs? between all the system components?

oh, and for info, the above setup will be in a Day VFR only aircraft.. so if all else fails, you can still fly looking out the window.
