Qantas Link Dash 8 at YSBK

So today (Saturday 190113) at AEST1100 I saw a Qantas Link 200 series Dash 8 parked up at YSBK? Anyone know what was happening here? This is a first that I'm aware of and it was parked up near the terminal bldg. I know it was probably a private charter or something but a Dash 8?

Someone's got some money.....

it was a diversion, it was operating from Moree late last night on scheduled rpt ops.

And for the record, a qlink Dash8 has diverted to BK before, for similar reasons I believe (weather- wind related)!

Turns out the reason for the diversion was that QLK193 had a estimated landing time Sydney which was just after curfew which meant it would have to use the curfew hours runway (34L) which had a 25 G 38kt tailwind component.. How an exception for one aircraft cannot be made is beyond me, stupidity!

There's no stupidity, nkand if 2193's estimate was post-curfew. They would have planned either a downwind landing on 34L, or an alternate.

Qlink has operational approval to land after curfew on 34L. However, only with a maximum tailwind of 20kt.

I have had a similar experience. ETA SY of 2315 local. Arrive in the circuit just as the southerly comes through and have to bug out to BK due tailwind of 25+ kt

Just a bit of bad luck for me, my crew and our PAX. Try getting taxis to go to BK after dark.

Had 2193's estimate for SY been before curfew...........

Pretty hopeless most of the time at Bk. So what did happen to the pax? That place can be pretty desolate that time of night.

I'd be kipping in that plane after organising a rotation of at least two to keep watch. Unless there were armed guards to escort me to a taxi

Bankstown can be scary at any time, especially after dark.

It's a bit like Beruit during the civil war, except if the Lebos don't get you the Islanders will.

Don't know what the problem is, there's a train station a short stroll away! Make the pax use the 'buddy' system and walk hand in hand to the train - easy.

The airline has a responsibility to get the PAX to SY airport.

Without going into too much detail, (and with very little assistance from a recalcitrant OPSO,who dropped the ball and just wanted to go home), I managed to get a couple of cabs there. Some got friends/family to pick them up, and the lazy OPSO eventually phoned QF Transport and got a bus to bring the remaining PAX and crew back to SY. We arrived back about 0345. You can work the rest out.

As for the ethnic remarks, I won't go there. Suffice to say there was no sign of life on the airport, apart from a night shift in the Pac Av hangar. I didn't feel unsafe at any stage.

Sure, a mere 6 kms walk and wait 3 or 4 hours for the next train.

Peterc005, you're an oxygen thief on this forum with the rubbish you post. Now it appears you're a racist as well...

Back to transport, I learnt the hard way one night which taxi company to use at Bankstown airport. After trying the bigger companies and waiting close to two hours for no one to arrive, I tried Legion Cabs and had someone there within 10 mins. Used them since and never had a problem.

Bankstown scary? You blokes need to toughen up!
What would be the largest aircraft to have landed at Bankers and what would be the maximum it could handle?
Bankstown can handle code 3C (think large corporate jet). However the Convairs that operated in there were pretty bloody big!

I had a scary experience at Bankstown, arrived via taxi at 11pm for a ferry job and my credit card didn't work as it was blocked due to an online overseas purchase so I had no way to pay the $50 fare; tried another card and his machine didn't work. The Asian taxi driver was threatening to beat me up and stab me if I didn't pay quickly so he had to drive me to an ATM at some dodgey servo that you couldn't actually walk into and had to talk to the guy through a hole in the glass. Yes, Bankstown is dodgey after dark but I'm sure the Qantas bus took everyone out safely. We're not talking Johannesburg here people :-)
