Qantas Ditching Perth - Myth?
Perhaps in the previous 12 years they did but ----
There was one incident on a B707 in Hong Kong, on the edge of a typhoon, where ditching was seriously consider, eventually the aircraft landed with about a 30Kt tailwind, and just managed to stop with the nosewheel inches from the grass. (old Hong Kong, of course --- no namby pamby 12,000 runways.)
Tootle pip!!
ps: Again, Meekathara, in the good old 707 days, was the primary alternate for Perth. QF used to have an Ingersol Rand low pressure start bottle ---- if you missed the start, it was a long wait, as the device had to be towed into town, and pumped up at the local garage.

There was an "actual" ditching recently that is not 'myth'.
I think it was a citation II from pel air?
Couldn't land at lord howe/norfolk from memory.
The pilot was an entrant for Cleo bachelor of the year.
How did CASA respond to his actions inn the washout - Hero or Vilian?

Catch 18.
The a/c in question was a Westwind that ditched off Norfolk, a world first; a jet at night with no fatalities.
The female F/O is now with Virgin.

Am thinking back to the Ansett 747? that was enroute to Perth with heavy fog
at Perth and went beyond the point of no return from the East Coast with nowhere
to land at Perth due to the fog. :
Ansett never operated the B747 to Perth. Also, the fuel policy for that type was to always carry fuel for an alternate

Found what I was looking for. It was Qantas.
Could have resulted in a ditching!!
Could have resulted in a ditching!!
As the aircraft was not fitted with an aircraft communications addressing and reporting system (ACARS), the operator's flight dispatch section attempted to contact the crew via high frequency (HF) radio but the attempts were unsuccessful. At 0845, a message from the operator about the 0825 TTF was provided to the crew by air traffic services. As the aircraft had flown past the PSD and fuel was not carried to divert to an alternate airport, the crew decided to continue the flight to Perth. The aircraft made an uneventful landing at 0938.
