Overseas kiwis and Air NZ Link
Just a question for fellow aviators in the loop,
Does anyone know if Air NZ are taking any recruits into the links who built all their after flight school hours outside New Zealand and are looking at returning home? I know in the past, the links have frowned upon those who left NZ for overseas hour building...
Cheers

Who the hell would know. It certainly used to be the case that Air Nelson in particular would regularly enforce a recency requirement of 50 hours NZ flying in the past 12 months. Why they do this I have no idea, I would have thought it would only benefit the NZ aviation scene to have some experience in it that hasn't just been fostered locally.
All the Air NZ link recruitment is now done as a group though, so I can't see how they can enforce this with centralised recruitment. You are just going to have to apply and find out, as an aside, how many hours have you got, have you thought about Jetstar NZ. They are taking FO's with pretty minimal hours and are not fussy about where the pilot has flown in the past.

I too was rejected for the particularly evil sin of flying overseas. But that's Air Nelson for you, lots of old aero club wannabes there. Hopefully better now recruit to group has arrived...

God not this AGAIN...... Dont get remoak started.
Having any flying experience (unless its as cabin crew) is of little value these days.
They are looking for "Air New Zealanders" who passed 6th form english (not me). The critical phase of the interveiw is the HR part. This is generally conducted in a dark room as all members of the HR team have a natural aversion to sunlight. You will be able to spot the HR person by their pale skin, dislike of garlic and their inability to cast a shadow. They will also be constantly trying to justify their job to anyone who will listen. I suggest you use phrases such as "going forward", "brand deliverables" as well as frequent use of the word: positve. Using multiple phrases, IE: "taking positive steps going forward to acheive brand deliverables" will make you a shoe in.
There is also a sim and some tech questions but thats just a formality really.

A Couple of things you forgot, putting systems in place to ensure, implementing procedures and ensuring, and of course while doing this going forward.
Give it time, it will do the full circle when they find the great people they employ can’t think or fly the plane to well. In fact I hear that is already the case.
I think the world is losing the plot!!!
When we have so many systems in place we can’t get out bed in the morning I am sure the experts will have a rethink!!

Agreed Remoak!
I withdrew my Air Nelson application 12 months ago as it was going nowhere. Since then I have added a few new skills and a few more hours to my basket and have done more in the professional development area than I would have had I been there.
Personal circumstances have now changed and Mrs NWF and I are keen to move back to NZ. In order to facilitate that I recently applied to Air NZ. (since they introduced RTG) I'll be interested to see if I hear anything back or if the fact that I previously applied to NS and withdrew will have a negitave effect on my application.

Hahahaha....I always chuckle
My 5000hrs of 757/767 time plus a decent bit on turboprops was also the wrong kind of experience
Luckily for me, I still get to fly an ILS into NZCH or NZAA once in a while, actually come to think of it, I MUST have 50hrs of recent NZ IFR time by now

Haughtney, that's a pearler from you given what you have posted over the years...now that you have the requirements maybe you should put in an application with Air Nelson so you can get ahead and wait another 20 years with Air NZ to be doing what you are doing now
The other more mature (father of 2 kids under 5) part of me will enjoy the holiday house in Whangamata, my investment portfolio, and watching my kids grow up safe in the knowledge that NZ will always be there.
Oh yeah, and Air NSN can go **** themselves

AirNZ doesn't want overseas pilots in the ranks because they're probably all like this guy..
US pilot ruled insane after air meltdown
Still after 16+ years in aviation, I doubt I could pass that test!
(in fact getting involved in the first place should be an automatic fail )

I was one kiwi who was working overseas and then got a start with a link carrier without any problems at all. In my intake there were about six of us who had all been working overseas which got start dates with the same carrier.
There are those airlines that seem to run like an aeroclub or boy's club. Then there are those who do value that time overseas is meaningful and will never be counted against the applicant.
I think the RTG process means that a candidate from overseas is interviewed without any bias by the recruiters.
