Winds in YBCS today

Did anyone have a first hand experience of the un-forecast winds today in Cairns? 240deg/55kts at 1500' reducing to 20kts x/w at the 15 threshold. Some serious drift being held off on the ILS and some nasty turbulence. Impressive watching the jets coming down final sideways. Some people really earning their pay today.

Getting a bit carried away aren't we?
It was a little rough on the ILS, unusual for Cairns, certainly not unusual in a lot f other places.

Whatever blows your hair back I guess.

Now add some severe turbulence and windshear and that would be getting close to 'par for the course' for an average Perth day with winds over the Darling Scarp.

I reckon south east Australia gets the worst of the weather by far (in Australia)

But that 65kt south westerly is not so cool since some numbnut built a freight shed next to the 16R threshold.

I would have thought the 4500' rocks 5nm west of the ILS in Cairns might have shaken up the air a bit more than it would in Sydney or Perth? Anyway, put your rulers away, it was a rough day for Cairns.

Very strange weather in Cairns. Up in the northern beaches it was blowing a gale and a few wounded trees to prove it!

However twenty kilometres away down near Trinity Inlet was a relatively calm 15-20kts.

Good times.

Wonder if TC Jasmine had anything to do with the blow? :roll eyes:

(East of YBCS, North of YBBN as at about 050200z)

Lots of evidence of a blow on top of The Range, lots of leaf litter & some branches down. Thought the house might blow away.
