ATR job with Skywest Airlines
Hi there
I saw Skywest are advertising for ATR pilots. I'm currently flying the ATR with a company in Europe but am interested in a move to Australia. Does anyone have any info on the company? Pay, terms and conditions, etc?
Cheers

You may want to check immigration requirements and whether you may be eligible to work in Australia as these tend to be the major stumbling blocks for overseas pilots wanting to work in Australia.

I think the reason it is advertised is an expression of interest to see is there any ATR pilots left in Oz. They have not put a minimum level of experience or mentioned rights to live and work as a requirment in the advert. Very vague, ATR captains are very hard to come by. There are lots of very well paid jobs on the market for experienced ATR guys but most shall we say are in (developing countries)There are a few guys watching from Europe to see how this develops as a life in Oz would be very appealing if visa were sorted out. With Jet airways, Vietnam Airlines,Lion air and Cebu all looking for ATR captains for years will this be the same? With 300 ATR's backlog on the demand for captains is there.ATR is a great machine but a bit of a nightmare to crew.

You will need a sponsored visa 457.I don't think there are too many ATR drivers in OZ,so they might have to offer this kind of visa for oversea pilots.
Be carefull with tax reduction via LAFHA,this will end in June.Calculate plus 50%
in salary to have a good life.OZ is very expensive !
Good luck !

There are a number of ozzie ATR pilots in "developing" nations all current on the ATR but probably not willing to work for this operator due pay and conditions.
Better pay better conditions and I am sure they would return in a heart beat.
Kiwis are always cheap labour and the dollar conversion helps them

Thanks everyone for your responses. I don't see the visa issue being too much of a problem. I am interesting in hearing from people about what Skywest is like to work for.

Contract
Pilot Aptitude Training Systems: Pilot Payment & Employment Agreement
You can find a contract offered to me. Use F-50 as a reference for ATR payment.
Already have an interview scheduled for February. Probably my answer will be NO.

Why is Skywest recruiting pilots from outside Australia when there are so many pilots with turboprop and jet time in Australia who have applied and heard nothing?
Virgin Australa's press releases last year seem to highlight they wanted more jobs in Australia, so shouldn't these jobs go to Australian pilots?

no law against applying for the job, but there is a law that will prevent an applicant from working in said job if they don't have right to work here. could be some dual aussie/euros that have experience on type that find the recruitment offer attractive.
if no aussie residency / citizenship however, good luck getting a 457 visa to fly in oz at the moment
