Bomb alert at Longreach Airport Wed. 6/4/11.
Early yesterday morning a local pilot found a suspicious unattended parcel on a luggage hand-trolley just inside the GA gate at Longreach airport .
Although it did not get reported in the press , police were called and the area isolated for an hour as anti terror measures swung in to action .

Airport safety officer saves the day....
The safety officer known locally as "Shorty" was just finishing his rounds when he noticed the concerned group...they had been observing the suspicious article from a distance for about 45 minutes.
Then with no regard to his personal safety,he walked into the demarcated area , picked up the brief case type article and said : "I know who this belongs to!"
The anti -terror squad was then stood down and returned to terrorising grey nomads pulling caravans.

Suspicious article
The case.... not the receptionist.....
Geez.....turn the PAL on at 10nm ,taxi in , tie down M20j , load contents onto trolley , exit gate to loan vehicle,.... start transferring luggage......
Lights go orf and it's pitch black under the tail of the 747!
Anyone coulda dunnit honest! Didn't miss it till 8.30am next morning.
