BEWARE Non paying outfit in WA
sms, I fear you have been misinformed of what this job is about.
Even the agency whose primary task IS 'life saving' flights (RFDS) would not approach the role with the bravado you are suggesting -
- the risk matrix would be well and truly applied before anything like that occurred. As Wally said, no sane organisation would willingly put lives at risk to complete an aeromedical task. As for doing it despite not being paid....no chance.
I looked at this job and passed on it, so I'll take direction from HC who has more recent & accurate info than I. The day my pay is not in the bank in full and on time is the day I walk out the door.
If I needed to fly that 550 in the middle of the night in thunderstorms to save a life I would do it with no hesitation

This thread appears to be drifting. The subject is not about chest-beating while saving lives by flying through storm and tempest. The fool who does that for long enough will eventually either die a 'hero' or die condemned for taking others with him.
The original topic was a warning about a Company holding a contract to provide medevac cover (and presumably being paid a nice retainer) allegedly not paying wages when due.

Not the role of this job at all; rather, they are a pure air ambulance show transferring people from one hospital to another. Absolutely NO 'life saving' involved.
Most of the work is from the accident site (mine site etc) direct to Perth. The aircraft carries both a Doctor and Paramedic who can deal as effectively "first responders" but really backing up what medical facilities may be available, or unavailable at the site - whether its the medical centre on Barrow Island or a one man medical unit on a mine site. The contract was established to operate as a "critical patient" transport by the mining companies bypassing the RFDS in the process. The only company not to come on board was Rio Tinto.
Further, even the agency whose primary task IS 'life saving' flights (RFDS) would not approach the role with the bravado you are suggesting -

Harry mate,
not so sure you are correct regarding the limitations of a C550.
An ops analysis.
C550... operating weight....8300 Lbs
inc 2 pilots @ 200 Ibs each
Patient
Doctor
Paramedic.........................700 Lbs
Zero Fuel weight..............9000 Lbs
Max Fuel.........................5000 Lbs
Take-Off weight............14,000 Lbs... Max is 14,300 Lbs
Flight time Barrow Perth 2Hours 10 Min... Burn off 2400 Lbs
That leaves 2,600 Lbs at Perth to play with, a lot of options there.
Kal..Meeka...Geralton...2 hours holding.

Hey Thorn Bird,
Na, I reckon I got it right.
With a retrieval out of Barrow we used to arrive in Perth with around 1200-1600lb of fuel depending on the winds southbound. Its not much when you throw in an hours holding and a couple of approaches. We would burn around 1600pph, from memory, at F250 for a TAS of around 370. Any higher and the TAS would drop off pretty quick. This was a C550 SII, so a little higher than the weights you quoted.
