Obviously fly boat North got a little wrinkled playing with his boats in the bath and decided to come play with the grownups.

I'd imagine if virgin announced a cadet scheme for their mainline he'd be all over it like a rash, spruiking what a great opportunity it is and how its the only way to get in.

Would you like a towel?

A few Eagle pilots (and ex Eagle ones including myself) who only had applications in with VANZ prior to recruitement ceasing end 2012 and who were currently working with Eagle then (prior end 2012) got invitations to interview early this month for some upcoming starts. Got something to do with the Eagle closure.
In saying that, word on the ground is some (pre end 2012 applicants) at Air Nelson have also been approached and interviewed.
It does appear that the majority of us from back then including myself have already moved on.

So perhaps things looking up at VANZ however I have also heard that there are still a few on long term yes letters (hold file) who haven't either heard anything or some with no firm start dates

At least now they ask for your flight time and not your Velocity frequent flyer number like in the last advertisement. And I notice it's just an expression of interest.

Email from virgin australia recruitment

Hi Guys , I just got this email an hour ago, text below, your thoughts??

Dear Mr XXXXX
Virgin Australia has not conducted any pilot recruitment assessments for almost three years due to the slowdown in the industry and the Hold File that has been in place. Given the length of time the Hold File has been in place we have determined to terminate its use with immediate effect. Similarly, the online applications we currently have in our system have also been terminated. We are introducing a new recruitment process that is 2-3 months from implementation. However, we will need to do a small amount of recruitment for Second Officers onto the B777 and for First Officers onto the New Zealand Based B737 prior to the introduction of the new recruitment process. As such we will be opening applications for a one week period with immediate effect in order to fill the positions. As a previous applicant we are providing you with advice so that you may be able to re-submit an application. We encourage you to submit a new application if you are interested in either of the positions identified above.
Further advice will be forthcoming in the coming months about submission of applications for the new recruitment process.
Kind Regards,
Virgin Recruitment

If you want a job apply, if you don't want a job don't apply.

I'm sorry but what is the difficult part in this?

They are changing their system cope with it or move on.

Running to PPRuNe at every twist and turn in an application process to seek guidance troubles me.

Hi bobbby, just spoke with him. It's actually a SO slot out of Melbourne that he's got the green light for not FO. Fairly experienced turboprop driver just happy to move back home.

Exactly. Why do you want people's thoughts on it?

It is an internet forum... is it necessary to berate every person who comes on here to ask for advice? Leave the poor guy alone. If you don't like it go and read another discussion

Havick,

SO slot in MEL? The 777 does operate out of MEL anymore, bases are SYD and BNE now. There is a domicile clause in the EBA that allows MEL, but it's not a base.

Am I correct in thinking the Virgin Australia Long Haul International Pilots' Agreement 2011 is still "current"?
Are the VANZ T&Cs available to the average Joe online? I've trolled the internet but have not come up with much except what is floating around on PPRuNe. If anyone has some concrete information I'd appreciate it, PM me if you'd prefer.

BPA, yeah playing semantics there but yes. He will be living in Melbourne, commuting as an SO to be precise. To be honest I didn't really pay too much attention as its fixed wing not helo.

I guess I was just pointing out that they're hiring again and that's the slot he got.

Just like that, gone in a flash (hold file that is). Just over 2 years seven months!
Time to dust off the old interview notes

Everyone seems surprised that the hold file was thrown in the bin, how long did you all expect to be on it for!

Commuting for 777 SO

Just wondering if anyone has an idea of the rostering for the 777 SO. Would it realisticly allow you to commute from another city in Australia?

I'm pretty sure most people on the hold file received phone calls unless you were only interested in VAA

Yes, it is certainly possible. There are SOs all over the country commuting. Even some commuting from NZ and Bali. That includes Capts and FOs. Too hard to say about rostering. It's aviation, so it varies every roster.

Isn't it the VANZ crew that do the international 737 flights now? If so, how would that work out? Do they fly a NZ to Aus sector first then on to Bali? Does that mean an overnight in Aus?
