Tigermoth have they given you much in the way of details regarding the training schedule/locations? Assuming you were to be BNE based also?
Hopeful that something may come through for myself and wondering how soon it would be appropriate to look seriously at accommodation

Congrats Rebjorn and Tigermoth. Looks like you two were the only external applicants recruited this time round. Out of interest, what sort of experience do you both have? Just trying to gauge the experience levels that are attracting the recruitment team at the moment.
Skysook....valid point that was one of my main concerns...as I said previously lots has changed but I wish all those that have decided to go ahead the very best of luck
Why would they be concerned? It's not like you could wait it out and hope to join higher up the list! For someone who had been waiting over 2 years for an answer, why would you care how long it takes to progress? Not many other airlines hiring at the moment.
At least one external isn't a skipper. But the hour totals would be similar.
All seem to be turboprop drivers in High Cap AOC companies.

Going nowhere and tiger moth:
I think you are both missing the point to be honest. It is pretty much a given that VARA will have date of joining integration, just a matter of from what date. As I said, for me personally…and I will capitalise this FOR ME PERSONALLY, career progression is important to us all and I don't wish to PERSONALLY sit in the back seat folding maps for x number of years. I know of guys that have been there 6 years now still sitting there for one reason or another. Hypothetically if massive expansion occurs and it reduces to 3 years as a cruiser and I am successful in a bid across to domestic. Sit there for 7-10 years as an FO, then maybe just maybe if Virgin are still around, gain a command. It is like shares, I am entering a stage in my life where I wish for more conservative bluechip shares instead of starting at the bottom and working my way up again. As for younger guys with more than 15-20 years of flying still left in them I would probably jump at the chance.
As for the question of why would I turn down a job. Simple….because I was offered a domestic gig first up. This has changed and I don't lay blame on anything or anyone just as it rolls. Call me crazy for turning it down…personally I don't give a flying fig! Everyone's motives are different!

Pastor, Tiger expansion is on hold til 2016. Virgin is the only airline hiring now Besides, I'd rather not be employed by an airline losing $2m a week. Virgin will stay around, I am sure of it. Tiger, not so much.
Was anyone else offered to be placed on the VAI/VANZ holds today? Must be in preparation for closing domestic.

Happy and skysook,
The situation is obviously different for everyone, that's why you Happy Bandit) said no but the next two said yes. But for most, whether or not you are in front of the VARA drivers didn't matter. The two that took the gig obviously don't care where they sit, they wanted the jet job. Simples!
In this day and age, if people haven't done their homework before signing, then more fool them. If you look at the worst case scenario (VARA drivers are above you) and you're still happy to accept the job, then you take it. Most G/A and regional folk have access to AFAP and can read most of the story in regards to VARA's integration there.

Yet you were willing to fork out big money for the their Psychometric Testing.

I hope it all work's out well for you guys, hopefully you don't end up like those guys always complaining and whinging about how they "should have" done this and that....making and then sticking to a decision is hard. Wish we all had a chrystal ball!

Turning down a job with a major airline because you don't like being at the bottom of a list?
I think that's called 'cutting your nose to spite your face.' But hey, if you'd rather keep smashing through weather, driving props at FL150 because it keeps you in the left seat, well whatever floats your boat...

Nah, actually I remember you having a cry about it at the time. All good!
Congrats to those who got the call up and good luck to those still hanging in there..

Ok, so let's just recap for a second. The recent positions available at VAI on the 777 have now been filled. They were filled by some VARA pilots and some turbo prop captains on the hold file. Recruitment into VAI is now finished for good. So where does that leave the rest of us pilots that are updating their applications every month? Is there any point updating or is that definitely it for external applicants into VAI. Does anyone have any useful information?
If all applicants are now going through VARA then VA is going to have a hard time poaching guys from the ADF... That's a pretty hefty pay cut for a senior FLTLT/SQNLDR to take...
Sit there for 7-10 years as an FO
I think what is happening is that recruitment/growth is gradually returning to a more normal airline level. It's akin to something that you would have seen in the Ansett days. Many of my colleagues that worked there flew the turbo props before the jets.
