Plane Crash near Geelong

[VH-XXX]

A LIGHT plane has crashed into a tree near Geelong.

The passenger and pilot are stuck about 2m in a tree but do not appear to have any serious injuries.



I hope they get down ok.

But that sounds like one of those attention-grabbing 'ads.' we used to see -

You know the ones....the old DH-82 frame or similar stuck half way up a tree.....

Hope these guys are ok and they wait for the ladder....no point in busting an ankle getting out of a tree....

Two people have been injured after their motorised parachute crashed near Geelong, south-west of Melbourne.
Emergency crews rushed to reports of a light plane crash on a property on Matthews Road at Leopold just after 10:00am (AEST).
Instead they found a motorised parachute stuck in a tree.
John Mullan from Ambulance Victoria says a man and woman have minor injuries and are being taken to the Geelong Hospital.
"It's hit a tree about six to eight feet from the ground - three metres or so - from the ground," he said

Reminds me of a trip to Tasmania a long time ago. There were TWO aircraft hung up in trees down there.

Just caught it on the news. Very unlucky, it looked to be the only tree within 3 miles, poor pilot and pax. Bit of a gust on takeoff. The Aerochute can be a little tricky at the best of times particularly if a gust comes along.

Those damn trees are dangerous - first they started jumping out in front of cars & now they're jumping out in front of aircraft!

Yes i suppose the degree of control would be dependent on how much control you consider one to have over a parachute, motorised or otherwise.

They aren't quite conventional aircraft when it comes to taking off, you can't use a runway generally but rather an all over field or similar. If when you are taking off and the chute isn't straight if you accelerate the cart turns to match the angle of the chute. Pretty easy to control really however is subject to wind, gusts, runway area and user control input. A fun machine, great for taking away with a caravan and a good one to fall back to when GA becomes too expensive and political for you.

I really do feel sorry for them. They are a fun and usually safe machine.

It certainly turned out to be a bit of a media and SES circus by the look of it. Reminds me of that Lethal Weapon scene where he's stuck on the toilet due to a bomb and asks for it to be kept low-key and half the police force turn up to watch.
