The problem with this board, and this topical matter itself is there are far too many people with their own two cents to throw in, people that have big heads and think they run this board and know everything about the industry.

You guys should be ashamed of yourself, and unless you are directly involved in management of REX or AAPA, keep out of it because you are only speculating and have no factual substance behind your verbal diarrhea.

This cadetship, as Aviator329 has already alluded to is an opportunity of a lifetime, and that is directly reflective of the both present and past cadets. Isn't it funny how that all this negetivity getting sprayed around this site isn't coming from any of the cadets themselves? Which leaves me to think that it is the formation of both current disgruntled industry professionals who are jealous that they didn't get such an opportunity to enter direct into RPT operation and those guys who have applied and didn't get accepted (remembeing Rex have had more than 20,000 applicants since the inception of the program, and have a very stringent application process).

This website has the ability to be a great sourceful and resourceful tool for up and coming pilots, and I would like to hope that current industry personal would warm to the fact of helping these rising hopefuls realise their dreams. Clearly I am wrong, and instead Student Pilots are forced to sift through the bull**** that is on here which can and is untimately leading to them making grave choices in the commencement of their training and professional career as a pilot. It is somewhat disturbing to hear hopeful cadets say they have changed their minds about applying for the program or going through with the process because of the information (in which they thought was correct) they recieved from supposed "industry professionals" on this board, and quite frankly is heartbreaking to hear that have possibly missed out on the chance of a lifetime due to the ignorance and arrogance of the selected majority on this site. Whether you are a Captain for Rex or not, you still don't have any of the inside swoop of the runnings of AAPA, and how top notch the operation by the management is.

How you guys sleep at night it a wonder to me!

Job hunting is awful, nothing's happenning, haven't heard from anyone. Maybe because I don't have any applications in with anyone and am quite happy 'stuck' as a turboprop driver...how bout yours? How's that 're-entry' into the industry treating you? With an attitude like you're displaying on here I think I'd have a fair idea how it's going.

Let me see, to bite or not to bite? Ahrrr, what the Hell.

First things first. aviator23, I wasn't actually directing my question in post #398 to you. The "Other guy" I refered to is the user name of a pro-management/Cadetship type that seems to breeze in and out of this topic. Sort of like a "hit and run" geurilla who doesn't stick around very long. These tactics are usually employed when the enemy (us), enjoy a superiority in numbers.

regional_av8er, welcome to the debate, though I do suspect you may have been here before? After reading your post carefully it can only be deduced that you in fact have the first hand knowledge of the REX Cadetship that you have accused the remainder of the forum of lacking! As such (by your own decree) we are indeed fortunate to have in our midst the only person qualified to comment on this subject. If you are not REX management, or directly associated with the Cadetship, then in line with your postulations, you would not be commenting at all, now would you?

Or, as j3pipercub has stated, it may be a wind-up, or perhaps you're just full of it. In which case you should be as equally ashamed as the rest of us!

Krusty, Krusty, Krusty...
I'm not pro-management - I'm just anti-idiot, especially with those who present negative opinion as fact. And being up against superiority in numbers doesn't mean I'm outnumbered! And for the record, I know not a thing about the REX cadet programme.

Perhaps we can ponder the other side of the cadetship for the moment. This is the internet here, the members of PPRuNe do have a certain level of anonymity, such that thread readers viewing prune for the first time or perhaps those who have made there way here from a google search generally have no idea who each of these people sharing there plentiful knowledge of questionable credibility actually are.

To all you nay-sayers out there, call me cynical but perhaps you are potential candidates to the REX cadet program here to spread your propaganda so nobody else applies!

Who knows? All I know is that I have read this REX thread from start to finish and its really funny reading and watching you guys chase your tails round in circles time and time again. Moral of the story, if you want to take the punt and have a crack at a start in RPT flying in the quickest possible time then this [probably] is a great gig. With the degradation of T/C's accross the ENTIRE aviation industry, I think most of us newcomers have accepted the fact that we are never going to own an Aston Martin and have a flying career, Sure REX is low paying, but atleast its a job.

Cos a newbie would know all about that huh?

You're not cynical, with a thought process like that, you're an idiot!

I think most of us newcomers have accepted the fact that we are never going to own an Aston Martin and have a flying career
Can you please explain to me when this was a possibility in aviation?

Sure REX is low paying, but atleast its a job.
You just don't get it, do you.

Plus you didn't answer my previous question, how's your job hunting going?

" Isn't it funny how that all this negetivity getting sprayed around this site isn't coming from any of the cadets themselves?"

Yeah, funny that. It is also very interesting that nothing positive seems to come from anyone who has actually completed the course either! I think the only positive comments have come from those cadets (or wannabes) who have only just started training and still have stars in their eyes. I'd be really interested in hearing from anyone who has completed the course, whether they have good reports or not.

As for "negativity"; I regard the comments from other posters on these forums as valuable information when it comes from people who have EXPERIENCE; something cadets don't necessarily have. I'm still interested in the opinions of all posters though. Some others may have access to info that I don't have and it all counts in the long run. Good luck to anyone involved in the scheme; I hope you can come back here with good reports about how things are for you.

Cheers,

Cn

Krusty,

I think Roxy has worked you out, you're just here to stop others from applying, to increase your chances of being offered a start .

It would take a few minutes, but reading some of the other threads on this forum would give you a quick indication that alot of the people giving advice in this particular thread, know EXACTLY, what they're talking about and are well placed to give that advice and their opinions on the matter.

To all you nay-sayers out there, call me cynical but perhaps you are potential candidates to the REX cadet program here to spread your propaganda so nobody else applies!
Call me cynical, but perhaps the people here are just trying to give GOOD advice to newcommers?? If you don't want to hear it, turn your computer off.

The trouble with me applying Josh', is that I wouldn't have a snowball's chance of passing the "WOMBAT" test!

Here's a positive Roxy'. All the cadets I have met are terrific people. Well trained, motivated, and good team players, that's a fact. The problem is, they're at REX for one reason only; Captive workforce. And that's an absolute fact!

As far as the Cadet scheme itself, it may have just about run it's course. Interviews in Melbourne all next week for Direct Entry F/O's. Probably too little and most definitely too late.

That would be for one of two reasons, now what could they be............

bmarley,

You might want to re-read my posts, tongue in check my friend.

To spell it out for you:

1st post:

Krusty on the cadetship ?, well by my reckoning he/she is a Captain with REX already ?.

2nd post:

Two reasons why Krusty would not be able to pass the WOMBAT test:

1) Krusty does not have the required skills to be a REX pilot, which by my reckoning above, he/she does, or,

2) The yard stick is not really a relevant yard stick.

Quote from Roxy in post: 402

To all you nay-sayers out there, call me cynical but perhaps you are potential candidates to the REX cadet program here to spread your propaganda so nobody else applies!
I do not have an opinion about REX or the cadetship, when someone suggested the negative content of this thread was to stop others from applying, I thought that quite contradictory of what I was reading, highlighting Krusty in comparision to this statement highlights how incorrect I believe the statment to be, considering Krusty appears the greatest source of discussion......

So perhaps you could even say I respect Krusty as a peer on the prune.

Roxy,

Fwoar, is that like you're almost a pilot too? So a commerce graduate somehow has an idea of the aviation industry simply because they are a commerce graduate?

So have you given up your conspiracy theory that all the other posters on here are out to foil everyone else's applications?

In some parts of the industry, T & C's have improved in the last 2 years... but you'd know all about that wouldn't you...

"To all you nay-sayers out there, call me cynical but perhaps you are potential candidates to the REX cadet program here to spread your propaganda so nobody else applies!"

Might be a tad late for that sort of thing? I've just read (on another forum) that there are something like 20,000 applicants for training to be a FO on the SAABs. A few negative comments about a First Officer training scheme isn't going to alter the chances of a call-up towards those people making those negative comments. Perhaps 20,000 applicants is an exageration; I don't know. I'm inclined to think that those people making those negative comments are doing so out of goodwill. They don't want to see fellow aviators waste their time? I applied for the scheme but I missed out. Perhaps that is a good thing? To me, something doesn't sound quite right about the scheme. If it sounds too good to be true........?

Cheers,

All good Roxy, but if you continue on your present tack, this won't be my last post directed at you.

Your previous statement was that ALL T&C's were decreasing. What's that tune you're whistling? Sounds different.

I don't come on here to belittle people who have less hours than me. I take issue with the unqualified, vacant, inept and idiotic statements about the industry by guys/girls who only a few days earlier were asking for tips for a CPL flight test... That is what I have a problem with. If you come on and ask questions of merit, that is not a problem, there are many many experienced guys on here who are more than willing to answer all the questions a lot of newbie's have. The Green Goblin is a prime example.

But you, you are just something different, wake up to yourself!

j3

P.S. Now off to complete my WOMBAT test... cos I'm trying to get into REX as a pile-it, don't tell Roxy she was right...

Crikey bmarley26, I'm blushing, although I'm glad I may have been of help. Go easy on Josh Cox though, his comments to me were definitely tounge in cheek. Sometimes it's difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff on pprune, but that more often than not makes it interesting.

Good to see some different opinion Roxy', but as you would know "reading the question" is often essential to passing the exam.

Holy Snappen' Ducksh!t Cirronimbus, 20,000 applications!!!! Man, there weren't that many to the RAAF the year Top Gun came out. Must be a lot of delusional (and cashed up) youngsters out there. or perhaps the rumour mill has just kicked into overdrive.

Has the penny dropped?

Seems the direct entry minimums have changed recently...

Essential Selection Criteria
We require all applicants to possess the following:
• Australian Commercial Pilot Licence or Australian Air Transport Pilot Licence
• Command Multi Engine Instrument Rating
• Civil Aviation Safety Authority Class 1 medical certificate
• Minimum of 2000 hours total flight time
• Minimum of 500 hours command or ICUS flight time on multi-engine aircraft under the I.F.R
• Australian citizen or permanent residence status.

Wasn't long ago it was 800hrs and 350 multi??
