Yeah lucky, but probably helped landing in snow as opposed to hard ground!

The record for falling without a parachute and surviving is rumoured to be around 40,000 feet by a female Russian fighter pilot in World War II. Fir trees on a steep, snow covered slope reputely broke her fall.

Wiki quotes 33,000 feet here.

I guess when terminal velocity is achieved at 400 feet (??) anything more is purely academic?

I read the story about the WWII survivor, except it was a Tail gunner out of a Lancaster, and HE even gave his account in the story.
Readers Digest wouldn't lie would they?
