ATPL Aero and systems exam

I just heard the ATPL Aerodynamics and Aircraft Systems exam has been shortened from 150 mins to 90 mins.

How long has it been like that? Anyone know any reasons? Is the exam now 40% harder?

Plenty of time

Maybe they looked at the stats on time taken to complete by past candidates over the years since cyberexams were introduced. Its one of those subjects where you know the answer or you don't. Dwelling too much on the options doesn't help.

If the content and database is the same, 90 mins won't impact on your result.

It's a tricky subject, mostly because of the breadth of subject matter and learning cockpit systems without the benefit of having them to practice on.

Time is not the breaker.

CASA have only just changed the exam to 90 minutes.

However as stated earlier; no need to panic. There is plenty of time for the exam; even with 90 minutes.

As others have said, 90 minutes is plenty of time for Aerodynamics and Systems.. you either know it or you don't. On the other hand, Flight Planning could do with another 30 minutes .. I finished that one with 30 seconds to spare!

mingalababya, by the sounds of it you passed Flight Planning - congrats !

As I have said before, most candidates finish FP in less than half of the allocated time, using shortcut techniques. I think if FP were done in detail with all workings shown, it could take at least an hour more than the present allocated time.

I agree that the Aero and Systems exam should be shortened. The longer you sit in the exam room, the more likely you're going to doubt your (correct) answers !
