Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, starting to give me the sh*ts now!

TAXI PROCEDURES

- for departures at a non-controlled aerodrome
  • (aircraft type) (POB) [IFR(if operating IFR)] TAXIING (location) FOR (destination or intentions) RUNWAY (number)
according to my Jepps - AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL 8.4 (AU-929)

Where does it say you have to give a heads up call for a departure report?? Thats a new one on me! I just go straight into it. Like the taxi call, I rarely get told to standby or say again.

"Finals" ****s me!

Unless you fly upwinds, crosswinds and bases, or you fly like a spastic it's FINAL
And when did the 'third person' radio call become the norm?

'VH-ABC Taxi's/Backtracks/Lines up/Rolls...etc'
Couldn't agree more, makes me cringe every single time.

And also adding intentions to your downwind, base & final calls??? Why people?

I don't have my Jepps with me but I assure you it's in there. They won't always ask you to stand by or repeat but it does say to do it. Phraseology - "Melbourne Centre, (callsign), departure" and wait for a response.

You know what I just had an epiphany. I do believe I've gotten it confused with 'position' where you're supposed to say that prior to spewing out the report. I apologise! Sorry chaps

Dragun, Maybe for a departure report but not for a taxi call.

If you think about what's going on from the controller's point of view it's very logical. With a taxi call all the controller really needs to remember is your callsign as the other detials you give are a confirmation of what's already in the system. But on departure there are departure times and first estimate times so it gives the poor bugger a chance to open the appropriate window on his TAATS screen so he can type in the numbers as you read them out.

One of the many things I learned after a vist to ATC

Nah...can't fnd a reference anywhere to give a 'heads up' call for a departure report either.

Although the new IFG does state as an example of departing a non-towered AD "Mel Ctr, ABC, with departure"...but then...it is the IFG.

My pet peaves...

-3rd person. For all intensive purposes when on the radio you are the aeroplane!
-Unnecessary overfly calls on CTAF frequencies. Honestly if you are going to fly more than maybe 500' above overfly height, just maintain a listening watch. Please!
-FINALS? What the hell! Didn't know that there were choices of final
-Miraculously awful calls. My favourites of the week are "XXX Turning Left" (he was turning onto crosswind) and "XXX turning left pattern" (I have no bloody idea what that was supposed to mean).

All you guys & gals can say what ya bloody like, even in a Mickey Mouse voice but please don't do it on 121.5 !!!!!!

And as for the dunny paper being on the wrong way?.........love it, pure gold
How's this for stupidity, off trk here so Mods close ya eyes for a moment. The new dunnies at work consist of a couple of 'Unisex' toilets. Scenario:
Toilet has two closet toots, one being used by a big smelly burly guy making all sorts of awful noises & the smell, enough to peel the fresh paint off the walls, normal for a bloke at times. Enter one 'fine' lady, are you going to tell me that she will sit (assuming here) in the cubicle right next to the one being destroyed by the male & make splashing noises whilst he's in the other????? HARDLY!!!! Believe it or not when first built the single door into these so called politically correct dunnies had a clear glass panel I was told!!!!!!

Okay as for correct R/T? NOBODY does it correctly!!!

das Uber Soldat,
You are correct, I did type that wrong, .

Switch the POB and the IFR bit around, then it's right, .

I normally do say it like it should be, I just had a moment and got the two in the wrong order, .

What view does everyone have on calling intentions for each leg of the circuit? (Touch'n'Go/Fullstop)?
Or do you guys only want it on Final?
Or... just not care?

Yes, my bad! For all intents and purposes. Typo to start with and just spell checked without reading it.

And just a base call with intentions is fine in a CTAF circuit.
