Why can't we have a system where we just nominate where we want to have our days off, in preference, and then the computer just fills in the gaps with work that is a fair share rotational system? I don't see other shift-work jobs have the same freedom that QF cart-pushers do. I am happy to be politely corrected if I am wrong on this matter. I am more concerned about getting a particular day(s) off work so that I can have a life outside of cart-pushing. The work allocated by the computer should either be totally random or on a transparently fair rotational system. I personally would like to see the end of seniority system for work allocation in favour of more control of my personal life re: days off. I have lots of lamington drives and P&C meetings to chair.

Melbourne The Weakest Link

I think several of you are on the money when you describe the agitation emanating from criticising the bid system as dangerous for all of us.

I am melbourne based L/H, and i get Chris Ball's social club newsletter. In it, the latest several editions, have " unnamed " cabin crew criticising rosters.

This newsletter is co-incidently attacking the FAAA over concocted allegations.

Interestingly, the newsletter has no link to the FAAA' s website but the Qantas Cabin Crew website has a link to this newsletter, which now is being used as a forum to attack the bid system and the FAAA.

We all know the Company is manic in its determination to get rid of the bid system... so the question arises why a melbourne clique is using Chris Balls newsletter in an attempt to encourage discontent with rosters and the bid system?

And the Company is providing this rag with a link on it's website....... just a co-incidence?????????????????

Domestos....Its all About ?

Unfortunately Domestos you are not part of the solution but rather part of the problem.
You continually play the devils advocate with total self interest.
For twenty years we have had a bid system which most have built their lives around.
Take that away and you cause hardship for the silent majority. Those who have children, those who are carers and those that visit family who live overseas.
The silent majority wont be silent if you remove or tamper with the bid system simply to placate those that may not be here in 5 years time.
There is a growing doubt that Domestos is even Cabin Crew

Dear Ka.Boom

Yes I have a confession....I am actually President of the Parabadoo Branch of the Ladies Auxillary Lamington Association.

Thank you for your contribution and I respect your views re: seniority. Like yourself, I too am free to express my opinions on a freely democratic forum such as PPrune. Qantas Airways is a company....not a friendly co-operative commune. I joined a company...not a fraternity, not a friendship group, not a reading bookclub.....I joined a company. I am employed by Qantas Airways. If my employer puts forth an idea that I believe works for me...then of course I am going to vote for it. I make a decision that works best for me....and likewise, you will make a decision that works best for you. I don't owe any 'fraternity' or 'group' any obligation or allegiance...it is a decision that I am making between me and my employer.

If Qantas turned around and told me that I can have whatever day off I want in return for giving up my choice of flying...then of course I am going to agree to it, because I see this as a benefit to me. It is of no concern of me that Joe Bloggs wants to do 5 day trips so that he can spend Saturdays with his son at soccer etc. I simply don't care...and Joe Bloggs should not care that I want to have certain days off in the month so that I can run my Lamington Drives at the Parabadoo Fete.

Just like EBA voting...at the end of the day, we vote on what we think is best for ourselves....not what we think is best for other people. This is the reality of the world we live in. To think that this is Alice in Wonderland is utterly foolish and flawed.

I have rights. You too have a rights. But you don't have the right to stop me from having my rights.

Merry Christmas. Just to let everyone know....the Parabadoo Branch make fabulous mince pies.

My last post I thought was somewhat innocuous. The Mod apparently felt otherwise.
Lets see if I can stay on the right side of the line.
1.The Company does not want seniority to continue.LG sees it as evil
2.There are those motivated by self interest who will aid the company in the destruction of our Terms and Conditions.
3.Several posters use "I" prolifically in their responses Indicating that they have an agenda not in the best interests of the majority.
Selfishness is a word that comes to mind when describing these individuals.
Unfortunately when they get their own way and realise their mistake they move on and leave the rest of their colleagues with the mess.
Post 126 is perfect example.A truly self absorbed little person

Domestos:Your Rights

You are entitled to your rights and convictions.
Dont try to impose them on others.
They may take offense and react to protect theirs
You have not been employed by QF for very long.If you are unhappy with your current circumstances the front door is always open.
Avail yourself of the afforded opportunity. You will be much happier.
So will a lot of others

Democracy

Where the rights of the "majority" prevail. If the individual's rights are consistent with the majority the individual is a happy camper.
If not......find another place

well i am not on the mailing list but apparently its some social group that was originally for Melbourne Commuters and expanded when the melbourne base opened.

I think that the majority of the email recipients are in Melbourne Base and seem to be very unhappy with the current rostering arrangements.

It always amuses me that some people get a base where they live so they dont HAVE to commute but still want the trips that they got out of Sydney and pressure the Company to give them what they consider is "their" fair share of the flying

Hence the pressure on the Company by these people to give them London Flying that many crew in SYdney have built their lives around

No one owns the flying and that includes Sydney but it seems a little bizarre to get the base opened in Melb and not be satisfied with the benefit of that but to want to destroy the conditions of others

Hello commmunity. Keeping it short and simple now as I have some baking to do:

1. Ka. Boom....if you re-read my post...you will notice I have not "imposed" anything on anyone. I merely 'expressed' my opinions. I never rammed anything down anyone's throat by embarking on a proactive campaign.

2. Whoever said I was "unhappy"?. I never said I was unhappy. I made suggestion that I would like to see what I think is best for me.

Yes it is all about me. The most important person in the world. Me. Now if everyone would politely excuse me, I'm finished with the limelight now....this communal gathering around the warm bonfire is not my thing....thank you all and sundry, and Merry Christmas. I'm going to a fancy Christmas party now with my boss.

P.S. Oh please buy my Christmas mince pies....I need your business.

The Enemy

We have always been divided and selfish...refer post 126.
Much of what we have lost has been through our own doing. The fear is that that this rolling stone in Melbourne will gather moss and erode our conditions further.
The Domestos pandemic is coming

Forgot to add....

Hello Possums!

I forgot to add: Adam Smith (Classical Economist), in his book 'The Wealth of Nations' espouses that self-interest tends to also promote the interest of the community, through a process known as "the invisible hand". Some food for thought. You see I am not totally selfish! I'm thinking of you too.

Goodbye Possums!

Prunezeuss, the pandemic is not all that bad...I do use ecologically sustainable coconut in my Lamingtons. Have you tried my mince pies yet? All the managers rave on about how yummy they are.

I doubt that the majority of crew in MEL would support any changes in their conditions or seniority.
The best thing to do is to ignore this vocal minority.
Anyway the company are used to the whining that comes out of MEL!
Who cares what they think.

As Michael Mijatov mentioned in the latest newsletter, the company is planning to start using the Carmen software for bidding next year.
This will be state of the art bidding software as compared to the archaic software we have now.
Anyone who wants to make a change to the bid system now is being a little premature if they don't wait to see what benefits the new system brings.

Dear Domestos....as I am sure you are aware, even the most junior F/A can achieve their days off on reserve and still pick over the trips in open time. I suggest that you bid for it in the next roster and stop whinging.
