Vale: James M Betts (Ex T.A.A.)
For those of you who served in T.A.A. I am sorry to advise that Jim Betts passed away peacefully the morning of Wednesday 19th November. Jim who was 82 last May was a resident of the Domain Retirement Village, Ashmore on the Gold Coast.
He left Australian National Airways in January 1957 to join T.A.A. and retired in late 1983 as a Captain on B727. He was based in Sydney, New Guinea (Lae), Melbourne and Brisbane.
He will be sadly missed and remembered by his mates as one of a kind and a real character.
For those of you interested a service will be held at:-
Allambe Memorial Park, Nerang, Gold Coast
Nerang-Broadbeach Road
Monday 24th November 1500 EST

Ah Jim,
Flew with him often on the 727. Nice guy with his own unique personality and slant on life......few bland Captains on that fleet in those days were there? One more time I open the log book from the late 70's and early 80's and one more time see so many names who taught me a lot.
Vale Jim

I am trying to find out what Aircraft James (Jim) Betts commanded/crewed. Jim gave me a model DC3 (VH-SBC) that was made for him many years ago. I have donated it to QAM at Caloundra. I crewed with Jim in PNG and I was the one with Jim when he passed. If anyone out there can give me some information as to what other aircraft Jim Commanded I would be most grateful. I know DC3 and B727 ...
