Uses for ASICs
Apart from the usual comments about uses for ASICs, is it still possible to get a discount on duty free in YMML if you wear it. Passing through there shortly as SLF and wondered if there was any use for the trusty ASIC. Thanks in advance.

Not sure about duty free but you can get staff discount at all airport cafe's around australia when you wave the ASIC around. Also handy for scraping ice off frozen car windows on a frosty morning!! Beats wrecking your credit card!!

Discounts at airport food outlets!
I rocked up to the coffee bar in the departures lounge at Cairns on Monday and ordered a cappuccino in a mug. "That'll be $5:30", she says! Then she spied the ASIC dangling from my pocket, "Oh sorry! That's $3.80".
I only have to drink another 119 mugs of coffee and I will have recovered the cost of my ASIC!

Don't hold your breath, although you might get an 'access all areas' to the exit row...

sthaussiepilot, they're no good as proof of id for nightclubs as they don't have your date of birth on them - already tried that. Maybe it was the hideous photo on mine that caused me to be refused entry though?
I have used mine as a proof of identity when pulled over by the police without a license. The policeman asked what the hell it was, then took it back to his car, came back 10 mins later and told me to have a good night. He must have been scared off by the Australian Government logo on the bottom?
Also good for impressing bar girls / starting conversation with them. Just take it out of the holder thingy and make it fall out of your wallet when paying for a drink. Then again if your that much of a tosser why not just wear four gold bars out?.

Oh look at me i am a pilot? don't tell me you wear shiny rayban's as wel.
Mind you it won't be long when if you tell a chik your a pilot they will buy you a drink because they feel sorry that we don't make the stacks off money pilots used to.
In that case i would try it all the time

Great for getting exit row seats
Great for discounts
ALSO, a great ruler for W&B sheets (back when I did them)
DIVOSH!
PS:
R&EJ:
Geez! The Church! That brings back (lack of) memories... Do they still have the girls getting their kit off on stage at closing time?

I turned up to YMML to drop a couple of thing off to some guys working airside. Asked for ID by security ripped out the trusty ASIC and was promptly told that the ASIC was no good to allow me to drive airside! wtf.
I was then informed that to drive airside I had to have a valid drivers licence approriate for the class of vehicle I was driving. So my ASIC is no good for ID and I need to hold a licence to drive airside where you don't actually need a valid licence to drive...

At major airports you need an ADA (authority to drive airside) issued by the airport operator (as per Airports (Control of On-Airport Activities) Regulations).
AFAIK they all require that you have a valid State licence on your person as well and produce it on demand.
As for ASICs, they used to be good for free entry at some nightclubs on some sort of 'industry' contra-deal, but I haven't tried it in a while. People who were female and looked like an FA used to have more success than others

Come on "dude", aren't we all like that? When flying i also wear a helmet with Iceman written on it. I don't think that said chick would be to impressed when she asks "What type of plane do you fly?" and I reply with "A 35 year old Cessna - but only when I can afford it"
