Advice - ATPL Human Factors Exam
Hitting the ATPL HF exam soon. Chasing any helpful info on the exam, anything that may not have made the AFT/Bob Tait notes/practice exams.

I only studied Bob Tait and achieved 97%. The questions were very similar to those in the back of his book and there were no surprises.
There was a good thread posted here a while ago about the exam.

I reckon a fair percentage of the exam questions are lifted directly from Bob Tait's book.
Aircraft - Human Performance & Limitations by Tony Wilson is also worth having a look over, in particular the few pages that explain a number of well known accidents in terms of human factor causes - there will almost certainly be a question on one of them in the exam...

hey guys, sorry to re-hash this thread however im curious about what bob tait book your talking about? the only one i can find online is the book with the red cover and a chain on it which looks more aimed at CPL HF.

G'day devolved.. I used Bob Tait's CPL Human Factors text (and nothing else) to study for the ATPL exam and passed it no worries at all. If you know the text and do his practice exams you'll find the exam easy. I got a better mark for ATPL HF then CPL HF and both times used Bob Taits book.
I concur Tait's book (red cover and chain) is all that you'll need! Know it backwards obviously. Get the new edition though! I had the 96 edition, and still passed!

I got a question on how Alcohol affects the hearing ability. Still have not managed to find the answer in any of the CPL / ATPL texts.

For my CPL bob taits book was great.
For ATPL, I knew the theory front to back, as well as Tony Wilsons front to back, AND Secombe Aviation Course Notes.
I was a bit surprised with the questions I got, must have been bad luck but virtually all the stuff I knew and had memorized was not required and I had about 15 questions on things about attitudes and really odd questions! Nothing like bob tait prac exams etc etc.
Id say read the Tony Wilson book a few times before sitting.

ksa, how long ago did u sit the exam? Tony Wilson aye? not sure if i saw that at concept aviation. Have they recently changed/added questions to the bank for this exam? Would explain why ATC have a new book out on factors which is a bloody novel..

Bob Tait's CPL human factors book is exactly the same text as the AFT ATPL human factors notes - page for page. AFT's is just binded like their other texts, and has some supplementary practice tests- albeit containing the same questions as in the notes.
The only thing I found that AFT/Bob Tait didn't cover in the required detail was attitudes and a bit on selective and comparative bias etc.

I sat the CHUF exam September last year as my first CPL exam. I was so nervous about the CPL exams that I spent about 8 weeks studying this as my first subject and I wanted a good mark. I was shocked when I sat the exam, hardly any of the practice exam questions from the Bob Tait book were even remotely similar to the Cyber Exam. In the end I passed (one more question wrong would have been a fail!) but I was feeling as if I had been studying the wrong material. I got home after the exam and checked the Bob Tait website for my versions currency and it seems my version was replaced the same month I bought it - Jan 08. The comment on the Bob Tait website said something like "this latest version completely rewritten for the CASA Cyber Exams". All my other CPL exams have been no problem with Bob Tait Texts. I did however ditch the two other out dated books I had and purchased the latest version to make sure this didn't happen again!

I just sat the chuf exam on Monday. It was first CPL exam, so I was hoping it would be relatively easy. However I studied all the possible text and did all the Bob Tait online practice exams. I also studied every point on the syllabus. When I got in the exam I got some of the most ambiguous questions. Nothing on hypoxia, or EPT or anything that i thought would be in the exam. I wouldnt take this exam so lightly. If your unlucky enough to get bad questions it can be a hard exam.

I did the ATPL Human Factors exam about 2 years ago using the Bob Tait material and although it was quite interesting, the practice questions were nothing like what I got in the exam. I managed to some how pass with a score in the 70's, but God knows how!! I really thought I failed.
