Pity no one was there to tell him to land on the hard stuff.

He circled for almost an hour. I recon he would have been given plenty of advise.

apparently the A/C dumped fuel prior ro landing according to the press. Pilot must have crawled out onto wings to open the fuel caps, clever boy, right up to the point where he landed on the grass, mistake! Oh well life risks where minimal, that's all that counts. There are more P51's on the planet than pretty much any other WW2 fighter craft, no real loss, life important, metal not.

Interestingly the museum's policy is to only fly aircraft that they have two of, yet the day after this one "crashed" the other one was at Albury airshow. Perhaps they didn't consider it written off enough to follow protocol.

Talking Museum Policy

VH-BOB don't belong to the museum, it's privately owned by Bill Eastgate.

"Pity no one was there to tell him to land on the hard stuff"

Dorward was a very long time career management pilot at AN and most likely would have had a preference for the seal .. I suggest that he would have had a very good operational reason after much discussion on the R/T for going to the sod rather than the seal .. certainly an interesting ride from the video.

"BILL when I knew him"

Intriguing .. most of us always called him Bob in discussions .. haven't seen him in years .. how is he going these days ? ... helluva nice guy.

Why are you crying about the machine? Why do you hope it gets repaired soon?

How come the CASA register lists it as a COMMONWEALTH AIRCRAFT CORP CA-18?

Angel Sad AND sorry.

I wonder John what could be a good operational reason for choosing an option with much more risk of injury and damage than the alternative, and in that case who were the advisor's?

I can't believe I have to come on a thread such as this and delete posts/warn morons in the manner above.

Any more references such as I have deleted above will get the poster banned.

Leaving those of us who didn't see what you have now deleted wondering what the hell was said that is not allowed.

Fer cryin out loud.

References to participation in 'that year' and how that might effect the decision making that went into the event that is the subject of this thread.
