Apart from an interesting program I finally got to find what the hell those things I was taxiing past were.
Can also remember the Russions flying around confusing ATC.
"We just want go over here OK?"

I'm assuming "Alf" is no longer in the RAAF. So why spend all day in full RAAF gear, badges, wings and all. Once one leaves a company that's it. Don't see many Ansett guys in JQ or Tiger or QF in Ansett uniforms - so why do some of the ex RAAFies feel they can forever wear the uniform of a company they have left.
Not inportant I know - but it does annoy me. I'm an ex RAAFie and would not dare to wander round now still in the full gear.

Like I said great show. Most have flown in or near TS's, but after seeing that graphic display, enhanced with techno stuff for TV as well me thinks best get my mum to give the boss an note saying my son is sick & can't fly thru yr nasty wx anymore!
Like the comment of 'drama queens' (for the pilot/s) I would imagine most would be 'acting' in some way if they where in the same boat (plne!)
'trever the lover' I guess one has to 'look' the part whilst on national TV
CW

Absolutely stunning visuals in the show. This was the first ABC (oops- ABC1 now) broadcast I’ve seen in High Definition (HD). The ABC should put this in a loop and broadcast it on ABC2 during the day to show just how good HD can be. Or release a DVD.
Yeessssss, you can tell the cameraman was a boy camerman.
HD was great, recorded it off the satellite and is only in normal definition. Good shots, Falcon getting struck by a "small" lightning bolt. Very impressive graphics, even caught a cyclone forming so the graphic shows the storms lighting up and then starting to rotate and form the cell. Just love cloud flying, miss it heaps flying in bugsmashers.
Gravity waves???
Laugh at the Russians cooling down the brakes and by comparison to it's size, the grob appears to have the tiniest of wheels.
All in all a top doco. So, that is Hector

Top documentary and some very interesting aircraft.
Whose hangar were they using at Darwin?
Nice job flying along 60', in single-engine aircraft, would want a good crocodile repellent.
Nothing like those NT storms great to watch them from a nice aircnditioned bar with a cold beer in ones hand.
I thought I was right with the U-2 and Darwin.
I heard a story over in the RAAF club about the young ace Mirage Driver who tried to out climb a cell off the coast of Darwin to settle a dare, he gave up at 50,000, and had to shout the bar on return.
So which dude were you in the show Tinnpis?

water cooled.
One of our territory's senior engineers/operators used to use a hose to cool down IO520 engines so he could work on them. I witnessed that a number of times. True story. And he now has a lot of IO520's, and others.
The bloke flying at 60' needn't worry about Hector more like the road train that could take you out!

Take a look at that photo, skinny kids taking an interest in planes, rarely do we see this now, most are either indoors playing dumb computer games or threatened for being anywhere near a razor sharp cyclone fence gazing at planes ! Truth be known those kids in the pix are probably airline pilots now, with at least one divorce under their belts !

Todays generation would be to lazy to get off their fat arses and ride their bike to the airport, mum would be to worried about them getting skin cancer from the sun and they might be out of mobile coverage, betting off letting them play on the computer and meet new friends on facebook or text their mates.
Now when I was kid any day at the airport was better than any day at skool.
