Looking For A Start

Hi guys.
Im looking at starting my flight training and was wondering if anyone here could give me a heads up on where to start, i heard there is some way of doing it through HEX through a university in melbourne?
Any info would be much appreciated

Since you're in SYD I'd head to Bankstown and do the rounds at the flying schools there.

Uni degree isn't worth terribly much without the licences and you can get them at any flying school.

No HECS arrangement that I'm aware of yet.... for the flying part that is... they'll cover the uni degree (in whatever) but not the flying... you're on your own for that... and it's a big number!!

OK GREAT.. so if i was to do my flying at bankstown airport is there a school there that any one could recomend that i go to?

The two top schools at Bankstown are Basair and Aerospace aviation.

I disagree with the above! I have worjed as in instructore for one fo the above - and i would avoid it liek the plague!

The two above are complete "sausage factories" for the indian market! you will be treated by a number!

Basair have lost about 20 of their instructors in the past year, so you'll be flung around from instructor to instructor....and you will find it incredibly hard to get a flight between the AC u/s, no instructors and poor managment! Aerospace has a better rep, but again they are packed to the brim with O/S students!

Find one of the smaller schools so you can fly as much as you want/wen you want! Schofields, whitworth etc..

I have heard schofields is a good training place. they guy who taught me from start till passed PPL was from there and has recently returned there.

HECS your flying

MORGAS, you're right... you can HECS your flying through Swinburne in Melbourne, and Griffith in Brisbane (and possibly another in Perth). Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but the Griffith course now has an alliance with Qantas that may result in industry placement on completion of the course. With regards to the HECS, I instructed at a school at Archerfield in Brisbane, where the students undertook the flying component of their course. They were allocated a certain number of hours to achieve a solo standard. These hours could be HECS'd. Any flying over and above this quota could not be HECS'd. Hope this helps.

HECS your flying

MORGAS, to the best of my knowledge there are three tertiary institutions in Australia through which you are able to HECS your flight and bachelor's degree. Swinburne in Melbourne, Griffith in Brisbane and WA Aviation College in Perth. The Swinburne course is part of the Qantas Cadet Program.

A small but busy outfit that provide quality training. Any one of the instructors are all highly experienced and seemed devoted to instructing and not just clocking up hours with your dollar.

you may have to read through a bit to find the relevant info but flight training on HECS is possible... i know... i start this year!!!
