Buying Headsets in US - Worth it?
Hi All
is it worth buying a Bose X or DC X11 from the states, especially with current exchange rate?
Anyone done this and had good/bad experiences with this in regards to delivery, warranty etc?

If your company has any dealings with Hawker Pacific in Sydney purchase through them. They'll give you a discount (if purchased by the company...simply pay them back). Will more than likely better the price from the US once you take postage etc into consideration.

Dirty Harry's
As Defenestrator says, look here first. They're easy to deal with, bought a set of DCs from them earlier in the year.

As per the other thread on headsets, I ordered mine, Telex D50's through www.marvgolden.com
After customs/shipping etc, they arrived within 5 days on my doorstep at a cost of $948.00 AUD or $1103 Kiwi.
Nothing but good things to say about Marv; they keep you updated and provide tracking numbers etc.....Very happy.

Definitely buy from the USA. Customs only apply GST if the purchase price is OVER A$1000. if you can buy under the A1k you can send them by USPS International priority for $US25. If you go over the grand then your options are to fill out a customs dec or have a customs agent do it for you. i use and recommend Queensland Customs Brokers. Russell and Glenys are helpful friendly Aussies!!
I buy all of my avionics and 90% of my parts direct from the States. Good luck.

I've bought 2x DC X 11's from Gulf Coast Avionics without GST as they came seperately and they were below $1,000 so no GST. They usually arrive in 5 days on Fedex economy. Would consider the Bose or the DC at the moment. Gulf Coast have stop stocking the DC's due to some quality issues. Eg, DC sent one to them that had previously been returned to them and it had the previous owners name engraved in it AND it didn't work. Getting lots of reports from owners on the X11's and a few are changing over to Bose, Telex and the Zulu's.

Another vote for Marv Golden. If you go with their insurance company approx US$80 or so they will 'adjust' the invoiced value so customs won't take their slice of the pie. Approx 3 days delivery and they will keep you up to date etc.

Thanks for suggesting www.marvgolden.com guys! Bit the bullet and forked out for a Bose X yesterday and checked the tracking this morning and the thing is already enroute to YSSY!
Can't wait!

Where to buy ?
Doing the numbers on a DC H10.56 hxl theres some "un economical" ways of buying a headset
NZ pilot shop 1525nz
Hawkerpacific Sydney 960 oz
Marv Golden 735 us
Freight ,ins, possible tax and duties make Hawkers a good safe option for oz buyers.
They advertise a "won't be beaten on advertised price " policy.
Sounds good

Pilotmall in USA give me good service and price. You can get the price online including postage (delivery is tracked). No customs issues if less than AUD 1000. Arrives within a week.
I saved just under $200 on the Bose compared to buying in Australia.
And probably just put another Australian worker onto unemployment benefits in the process!
Short term gain for oneself, longterm loss for Australia overall!

Unless you can come on here, put your hand on your heart and tell us everything you own is Australian made or that you blatantly refuse to fly any aircraft which was not bought through an Australian dealer in your 30 years of flying then I think you better pull your head in mate!
