REX CAPT Salary
Hi All
We have heard lots about the low pays scale starting out as a F/O on the SAAB, but can anyone give us an idea of what a capt might earn plus allowances, also what a check capt might be on.

SAAB 340 CAPTAINS

This is base salary. If you are based in a port with lots of overnights (ex, SYD, 7-8 overnights a month) you can expect another 7-8K p/year in DTA.
There is also an entitlement to the profit share scheme - which for the pilot group is dependent on years served and salary ... you can expect an 18 year old flight attendant to receive more than you.
"Share gift" occurs yearly and is 2% of base salary. You cannot sell them until you resign or 3/10 years.
You can expect to work 130 duty hours p/month and 80-90 flight.
Training Captains - 10% extra -- only when they are training.
Checkie - 15% extra
Latest commands awarded to F/O's with 13 months in the Company.

gassed budgie, unfortunately I have to agree. I think the first year capt scale, really should be the first year F/O scale. Capt should be on at least 90k to start on.

Doesn't compare very well to QANTAS baggage loaders or refuelers does it ? Even a postie is only 12K behind a 1st year captain, and after tax even less.
Anyone know how they're going getting drivers from overseas ?

Dismal. Why would one even bother?
It beats flying around in a 30yr old PA31 for 40k a year.
And you get to live in a city, not a community.
I know its not good money in terms of other occupations, but when compared to other flying jobs (GA jobs) its good coin and hence there will always be people willing to do it to get out of their current situation. Its going to take a few years until the supply of those people dry up and then the wages will have to change.

We are superior, simple as that. We have studied hard, passed exams and have a high degree of skill and responsibility. We are part of the professional class along with doctors, dentists, pharmacists, accountants etc.
Trouble with Australia lacking a class system is everyone thinks they are equal. If you consider yourself on the same level as roadworkers and unskilled labourers that's your choice, don't try and pull the rest of us down.
There are lots of opportunities in Australia to better yourself and advance through hard work, some of us used them and got ahead. Don't lump us in with people who are content to live all their lives on the dole in a housing commission unit.
We are not all equal, a visit to the low income area of your city will show you that.
Trouble with Australia lacking a class system is everyone thinks they are equal. If you consider yourself on the same level as roadworkers and unskilled labourers that's your choice, don't try and pull the rest of us down.

If we are considered part of the above professional group why is there so much talk about poor conditions in the industry? Such as the amount of coin Captains are paid amongst other things?
The Australian public doesn't question paying the high charges those other professions command yet they constantly want to fly around the country for a really cheap fares! Are Management being too greedy with the profits they make or is there not enough funds coming in with such low fares to pay pilots what they are worth.
Any thought anyone?

The great unwashed dont give a stuff about qualifications, experience or whotnot; price the the basic determinant; Until the proverbilal dark, stormy night, that is! You would be amazed at how many times in Asia I have heard :"We were ****ing bricks but when we heard the Aussie voice on the PA, then we knew we were OK".
With the Cadet scheme etc; REX will have to abandon datal seniority. There is no way that they will be able to train competant Captains to stem the tide to VB, QF, Jet* and Tiger. DE Captains will be the only option.

Like many others I have busted my arse over the past 10 years to get where I am today and am now getting some reward for it...
The point I was trying to make, is that someone can get a truck licence (in a week) and go and make similar money to a REX captain.....

No Kavorka, truck drivers start out on light rigid, after time move onto, medium and heavy rigid and after a min 3 yrs can get semi and articulated licenses that allow them to earn "better money". But after all they dont let the computor drive for them 90% of the time!!!!
