Chieftain off the end of the runway at YSBK

Heard VH-HJK ran off the end of the runway at YSBK this morning in crappy weather during take-off.

I wonder if the crew door popped open at about Vr and he/she tried to abort on a very wet runway?

There will be one very angry German.

Commercial ops don't stop just because of crosswind and rain.

Hope they're okay~~
yea Friday forecast was nasty....had the freezing level of 6000 or something...I was meant to be flying on Saturday the 9th, in a BE76 out of YSBK.
HAHA....Commercial Ops, that's what my instructor used to say, but my commercial ops is safety first!!

btw...does anyone know whether the pilot was aborting the T/O? the runway should be long enough for it to take-off i guess at YSBK.

I feel sorry for whoever was flying last night (friday), I heard two different a/c couldn't tell through the noise of the wind and rain but sounded like light twins or small turbo-props outbound (I think) over YSRI one at about 01.30 and another about 02.20 to 02.40ish in the morning, howling winds and bucketing rain, I think yesterdays Area forecast had Sev Turb and icing quite low throughout most of the area. Wouldn't like to have been flying in it!
Sorry to wake you Doctor but that was me, inbound on the ILS, then outbound a little later!

Luckily I managed to bypass Willy!

Worked both thur/fri and fri/sat nights, boy I am gonna enjoy my days off this weekend!

Snoop

Willy ILS was indeed interesting on Friday morning Howie. The more interesting part was trying to taxi in and then out again later with that wind on the go.

How many arcraft do you actually own!!???

it does and did stop for all my aircraft.
Given the conditions, i think they are bloody stupid for even trying it. Wind gusting to 55kts crosswind max 35kts according to ATIS?? you are kidding me, why bother!!!! insurance or no insurance, i would still loose a couple of thousand in charters over loosing a chieftain for a few months due to repairs that should not really be needed.

I don't own any aeroplanes - I just own the arse that's strapped to them!

There are going to be quite few eyes opened in the next while. With the drought the last few years, plenty of pilots haven't seen real bad weather before.

At the end of the day, if your aeroplane, conditions, ability or combination of any isn't/aren't up to it - make a command decision & don't fly.

It's that simple.

Wink Dr Oakenfold

IF.. you are on rwy centre (as per ops manual) and at the right speed, and touch down at the right spot, you nearly have to ADD power to get to the rwy end for a roll thru ldg (as per co ops!!)
