Their solo rate was 235 at last check, arse. Dual gets ya, but the solo is fairly competative I thought.

I don't think OAA will hire you a plane unless you work or are training there.

Pretty sure they charge a lot more than $235 an hour, I thought it was more like $300 an hour solo for one of their C172s.

^ ~$255 +GST per hour solo, $399+GST per hour dual for C172

At most places in Melbourne that's starting to become pretty standard these days

Solo isnt really that bad, but the dual is pretty steep

Wow, at those prices I would expect that the aircraft is refuelled and daily inspections are done and signed off by their team of LAMEs and I get transported to and from the aircraft in a stretch limo...

lilydale still has reasonable prices at around $160 p/hr. In regards to rising prices
prices don't rise if the website is not updated

Wow - super old thread! I wish I'd been in Melbs back in 2006 when BLT and TDN were less than $150 p/h, it seems!!

Whilst not quite as good as 2006 rates, I'm flying out of PC these days - the club has a C172 at $180 p/h (also a C150 at $130 p/h tacho) - actually, there is a winter promo on the C150 which brings it down to closer to $100 p/h which I will be making use of this afternoon!!! The aircraft are very well maintained - details are on their Facebook page.

Where are you flying from just now? Maybe it'd be good to keep the thread alive with current rates across the basin so we can make the most of any cost saving opportunities that come up.

There is an IFR C-172RG at Essendon available for private hire at $249 solo. Price is wet and includes landing fee at Essendon.

yep , pretty hard to beat point cook, you have to join the club though, but its only $100 year, but its close to the city and no landing fees! I have flown both their 172 and 150 and they are nicely kept aircraft. I was going to convert to RAA until I saw these prices, the club is small and the aircraft are not used for training, so its easy to get an aircraft for weekends etc. you just book on line and away you go.

Thanks guys, looks like there are some way better options than I originally thought. I like the sound of point cook's deal. Beats the hell outta paying circa 270 bucks an hour + landing fees at the usual haunts.

I'll PM you Andy - yea, it's worked well for me (although I live about 5 mins from the airfield, so it was always going to work well!). The Club has just spent about $10k on a flight sim too for members to use for fun - some of the members are working very hard on that project just now!!
