Snoop Charter Companies For Mining Ops

A Colleague who shares my office is currently producing a feasibility study for a mine in Central Qld.

One of the areas he has to look at is Charter Flight Operators who would be able to conduct fly in / fly out operations for up to 50 workers at a time. There is a total of approximately 160 troops with one third changing at any one time.

The operator will need to be able to conduct operations from Brisbane and Townsville to a location in central Queensland.

Anyone have any ideas as to who would be able to meet the requirements?

Ring Mr Hugh Davin at National Jet Systems in W.A. If he can't help you I guarantee he'll know someone who can.

Try www.allianceairlines.com.au

Alliance has bases in Brisbane and Townsville and the majority of their work is flyin-flyout mine charters.

Sounds like a job for Alliance. After all, it is in their backyard.

Hardly think the average CQ mine airstrip will suit F100 ops.
QantasLink appear to be ramping up this area of ops.
Spare Dash's maybe.

megle2,

You will be surprised at what airports the F100 can operate into. It’s capable of operating into airports that the Q400 cannot operate into.

OK educate me, how about these central Qld mine strips,

Blackwater, Kestrel, Oaky Creek, German Creek, Middlemount, Dysart,Clermont,
Moranbah, Collinsville, Coppabella, Duaringa, Springsure, Rolleston and Baralaba.

I think that just leaves Emerald which of course is OK.

You need to update your list of airports that aircraft above 5700 kg use for fly-in, fly-out ops in central QLD, as half the airports listed cannot be used by aircraft above 5700 kg and therefore not even the Dash 8 could operate into them.

The F100 currently operates mining charters into the following airports in QLD, Century Mine, Cloncurry, The Monument, Ballera. It has also operated charter flights into Gladstone.

When required (not often) I can quite happily land the F100 with a 400m landing roll. Max braking obviously so not passenger friendly but it can be done. Takeoff needs a bit more room though.

Cheers,
Tiger.

How about QRA in Cairns. Sort of work they have been looking at I think.

notmyC150v2 colleague may decide that it is feasable to lengthen and seal any strip to suit a F100.

There are not too many spare 50 seat turboprops about and according to ComeByChance any strip will need to be upgraded anyway to suit a Dash-400.

Strongly suggest NJS as mentioned above. They operate dash 8's (50 seats) and 64 seat 146's, and are particularly interested in getting more work in QLD. They already operate out of Brisbane, Cairns and have support close by in darwin and alice.

operate 20 some thing aircraft throughout Aus, not counting the surviellance australia contract or the PNG side of things.

Sticking to the thread, its CQ mines we are talking about.
So it seems at present just Emerald suits unless we rebuild the selected airport.
So no surprises there.

How about we lengthen them and always roster the 400m F100 driver and we can all watch. Sounds like fun.

I am surprised to hear this. Can you elaborate or give me an example airport.

Who cares what a Fokker 100 will or won't do!! If the central QLD mines want a jet service, they will upgrade their strips( as in WA), if they don't spend the bucks, they're stuck with Dash -8 or Metro's. Simple!

currently producing a feasibility study reckon all this talk about where is a bit futile. Being a study - perhaps it should cover the provision of a suitable strip in support of jet operations. Covers all scenarios then.

Reality - Alliance operates into various strips in support of FIFO ops. It does it very well.

Sad.
This has turned into a "my dicks bigger than your dick" thread...

notmyC150v2:
QF, Skippers, NatJet, Alliance, Network, Smackair/Jetshaft, QRA, Rex, Airnorth, Transair all do such work, or have done in the past... with various frames (Ozjet possibly soon).
Give them a call and I'm sure they would all love to submit a quote.
Happy landings
