So were there two VC-25's in Aus? I thought they just flew the one over with the 757 and some C-17's with the helicopter, car etc etc.

The one in Brisbane is an E4B, the scoop contains satellite comms equipment apparently.

Jaba: is it a scoop or a comms(?) pod with a black tip?

Bear: A mate of mine (USAF Col) told me that they often fly the second one on the journey and keep it at an airport within an hour or two flying time from the President's location, as a back up in case the first one goes tech and the President needs to keep his schedule.

The yellow beast is one of them DIY jobs, a Murphy Moose with a Russian radial, M14P(?) - to give an appropriate soundtrack. I hear she is about to star in an ABC production, albeit with a different paint job, something to look out for. Based at Southport.

Wonder what the basic weight of AF1 is? Must be pretty high compared to a standard 747 with all the furnishings, comm gear and security gear.

Used to fly a VIP 727 and with plush carpeting, panelling, entertaining and toilets etc bumped the basic wt up quite a bit.

Emeritus.

am i correct in assuming the fitment above the radome, below the cockpit windows, is a inflight re-fuelling probe receptacle?

You are correct

Both the VC-25 and E4 are inflight refuel capable.

IIRC, the VC-25 also has uprated engines.

Flying doctor had issues at Tindal a year or two back... It wouldn't be 'Julienne Marsupial' by any chance?

NTAMS (Pearl), close enough.

Call me anal, but to me it's like calling Careflight, RFDS.

Due to a certain request, this photo has been uploaded. To all those starting out training, regardless of how big your aircraft is, nail those crosswind circuits
