Well the plastic Parrot is hard to shoot down, turn the mode C off......almost invisible, not enough tin left for radar!

Not enough heat from the exhaust either!

Box of grenades and the door off would make a perfect small bombing platform

Why are the ASIO guys running into my office.....

J

Merry Christmas all!

Here's a couple from the weekend.

How about this one? Where was this taken?

This one was the topic of much discussion in a previous James Bond thread.

I love the SF260.

I pulled up behind it at the bowser at Bundy one day, started drooling all down my shirt, really un-nerved the passengers.

Anyway, M+D were still buzzing about it the next day... so hopefully this will help offset some of the gray hairs my teenage years caused them

Pioneering kitset plane is fast and Furio (+video)
ROELAND van den BERGH - The Dominion Post | Wednesday, 13 February 2008

A New Zealand planemaker is taking on the exclusive market for high-performance sports aircraft.
View video: Kitset aircraft

Falcomposite unveiled the two-seater Furio at Ardmore Airport in Auckland yesterday, six days after making its first test flight and two years since design work began.

The aircraft was designed by Italian immigrants Lapo Ancillotti and Lapo Nustrini, with financial backing from entrepreneur and classic motorcycle collector Kevin Grant.

Mr Nustrini's brother Giovanni is the company's test pilot.

Falcomposite drew extensively on the hi-tech boat-building industry to come up with a concept that Mr Grant said radically changed the nature of home-built aircraft and set the Furio apart from international competitors.

Composite materials and innovative manufacturing processes had allowed Falcomposite to reduce the number of structural components for the 290kmh kitset aircraft to just 20, compared with up to 200 for rival models.

This dramatically reduced the time and cost of construction to about 200 hours from 3500 hours, with no specialist skills required.

Mr Grant said the Furio sold for $150,000 for the airframe. Cockpit instruments, the engine and the propeller about doubled the final cost.

Three aircraft had already been sold, and between 24 and 36 sales were expected in the first year, mainly to the United States and Europe, building to 200 in the next three years, Mr Grant said.

The Furio was aimed at pilots looking for a fast cruising aircraft that was also nimble and fun to fly, but not top of the line.

The Furio was an example of the sort of niche high-skill manufacturing that New Zealand should be pursuing, Mr Grant said.

High quality carbon-fibre manufacturing had been perfected by the marine industry and was internationally competitive on price. Most production would be brought in-house under contract in the next few months and the company would employ up to 15 people.

Another shot of the Furio, if anyone's interested.

One comment I've heard from a few people is that the tinted canopy and bright yellow make it look a bit like an RC plane.
