What a write up Glad you enjoyed your day Andrew, it was my pleasure - I was 16yo once! (Thanks Jerry Trevor-Jones, Bathurst, 10th April 1985 C152 VH-TEN).

To all the other PPruners, well I'm a bit embarrassed about all the gracious comments and offers. My reward is watching guys taxi CIT out after a couple of hours for some solo circuits and then having a couple of beers recounting every bump

Well must go, two flights this morning in CIT followed by the DC3 this afternoon, so another busy day in GA.

Good luck Mr Wannabe, glad you got your shots and boy I could not believe the weather, someone REALLY wants you to fly. All the best in the future and remember you always have my number.

Sorry for the delayed response, had to move 100 bales of damp hay yesterday afternoon - Mrs Wombat had me working hard!

Thank you all for reading my report, especially Spinco:

I'm happy now to up the ante for you and if you're free next Sunday morning(wx permitting) you can ride the jump seat of the Warbird Dakota while we do some training
Yes please! That would be absolutely fantastic, I love DC-3's

Now I have another flight to look foward to all week, this really is too good to be true!

Am I allowed to bring my camera along again?

A free ride in a DC3? It's not fair, get me out of this forsaken hole filled with horrible people and get me to Auckland!

Enjoy it pilotwannabe!

FANTASTIC!

As a crusty USAF Pilot it was great to follow along as this post and flight developed! Kudos to you Mr Wombat35. I for one thank you for stoking Mr. Wannabe's already strong desire to get involved in aviation. I myself have become way too cynical as I've gotten older and this post was just what I needed to re-cage my gyros. I like to think I share my love of flying with our cadets in a positive way but after witnessing this, I can defintely find room for improvement.

Mr. Wannabe, thank you for taking the time to post your the recap of your flight. I truly enjoyed flying along with you as you recaptured your flight in such great detail. It really took me back to the days when I was just getting involved in aviation. What great shots...I have only experienced AUK while riding coach in an AirNZ 747 while on my way to visit my in-laws on the South Island. Maybe someday I can see it firsthand from the flight deck as I am certain you will. You are certainly very talented and there is no doubt that you fulfill your dreams.

If either of you ever find yourself in the US, please PM me as I would be honored to extend some hospitality your way.

Cheers,
JD

Pilotwannabe, Wombat35 et al: Congratulations to all on a splendid enterprise. Many have already said it: "This is how aviation used to be". I was too young to remember my first flight (about 2 weeks old), but I'm told it was in a DC3. No wonder I have an affinity for aviation and in particular the DC3!

Pilotwannabe, if your desire to fly remains as strong as it is now, which I'm sure it will, I would like you to post a little note on this forum letting us know when your first 'solo' is completed. You have just achieved the first landmark in your aviation career and I believe a 'solo' will be the next. Others here have shown they have faith in you and in so doing have shown they have faith in themselves, in other aviators and in aviation, both now and in its future, despite the grumblings that appear on these fora from time to time.

I get the feeling that you have just been inducted into the aviation world in a highly honourable manner.

Keep the faith. I expect to see a 'solo' post some time.

Great post pilotwannabe! Glad to see that you had so much fun! One of the true joys of giving joy flights is having the occasional passenger who experiences a flight he / she will never forget. It somewhat makes up for the miserable pay...

I went solo in a Citabria many moons ago and have never looked back. What a beautiful airplane- thanks for reminding me how I felt!

I hope you follow your dreams, it would be good to swap Citabria stories with you in the pointy end of an airliner someday!

Cheers,

Zap

some very nice pics there, as they say "a picture is worth a thousand words" and you just gave us 15!
I love looking at other peoples photos as long as they are interesting. As a young pilot I still love finding photos of planes on dirty dusty strips and pictures of weather phenomenom and things out of the ordinary because its what I have to look forward to. When I go looking i can never find any good ones. All the photos on Airlin***.net are all glammed up from all the major strips. It inspires me to see photos like yours and websites like Robbo the yobbos for those of you have seen it. I think more people on here should put there flyaway and weekender photos on here because they are interesting, and as is evident provide a bit of a cheery side to prune. your captions were very good aswell which makes it that bit better. Enjoy your flying good luck JB. Anyone who wants to put there photos on please do.

Looking good there Wombat 35, ya handsome devil!
Good on you for doing this; I think most of us have had some kind of flying experience provided by a generous mentor that really fired us up to pursue it seriously.

Good luck to you, pilotwannabe, but best not to embrace the prop like that or you might get a bit of Jack Newton action happening!

pilotwillabe or pilotsoontobe

T hankyou for the story.
It warms a jaded heart some of us seem to get as the hours pile up and the novelty wears off.
One more sleep night and I am off on four weeks leave to see the world and the Queen and a few places in between flying on another sort of 400.
A coachmans holiday no less!
Cheers
