Merged: CASA May Review Fees For Class 2 Medicals
Yes, precisely EJ. You go to your local DESIGNATED(by CASA) Aviation Medical Examiner and he /she issues the certificate. Why any input from CASA, other that designating the examiner? You pass the medical, you get you new medical certificate on the spot, there and then. No input from CASA needed.
That's why they're called DAME's.

Huh? You mean to say all those letters we wrote actually got delivered and read? Who'da thunk it?
Not to say that anything has been achieved as yet...but here's hoping.

My FAA was re-issued on the spot...
Any volunteers to don stupid glasses, jump on a soapbox, and bug the sh!t out of a federal minister on this one? the usual candidate doesn't seem to care about "affordable safety" in this.

Yes, have your say and respond on the link above. Given the choices, it is not really that clear cut. Just remember that we all get old and it is possible that your Class 1 medical may take some hours of CASA time to renew in the future.
My main issue is with the hourly rate. I pay my engineer only half that per hour to maintain my aircraft and he has 30+ years experience. I find it very difficult to accept $130/hr for almost anything!! Obviously CASA must reduce it's costs.

I think the amount of influence that we have on this issue gets down to votes. Say for example that the Tax Office decided to charge to come out and audit your business, like CASA does at the moment and the ATO charges to process your tax refund, just like CASA charges to renew your medical. Imagine how quickly the pollies would knock that on the head. Unfortunatley, we are a small group with very little political clout.

Go and see your local polly. then complain to the ACCC and the fairtradiing commision about a mob who have a captured maket and are exploiting it for waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than a fair and just cost. Its a monopoly. there should be rules against that to start with.
If there is enough people complianing about the same thing to the same people, something might happen. winge on Pprune till the cows come home and you will get a heap of people agree with you, but it will be worth nothing in the long run.

Thats OK, I will be charging and invoicing them $300 ph for completing paperwork required by the regulations, and for CASA required record keeping.
That also should include being on the phone witing for them, while they have me on hold, if it is a matter required by the regs, or for clarifacation of a badly written reg/rule/whatever.

If you go back through Creedy's articles you will find AOPA took up this fight. I don't think anyone is ever going to get CPLs free of a medical or CASA oversight, so I doubt AOPA would be silly enough to try.
