GKK

VH-GKK was a C-402B when I flew it in P-N.G., then still in its delivery colours of white with longitudinal blue stripes, with the T.A.L. logo added to the tail.

FWIW my guesses; Not Kanabea. No kink half way up the strip.

I only ever went into Kundiawa two times. Both in 1991 and the strip was sealed then. So dunno!

BTW, doesn't Kundiawa have a bloody great SWER line across the valley these days (and did back in the 90s) or have I finally had one too many Reds!

Also; Doesn't look steep enough for Kundiawa.

And never ever did get to spend an evening at the Kundiawa Kockroach Klub! Although my BIL did. He was one of the founding members actually!

Distinctive parking bay. Omkalai. Now closed.

Certainly a peculiar engine cowl, looks low wing turbine similar to a Conquest?

Had a couple of intreesting flights into there in 1970.The head man & wife had been killed in a motor accident on the highlands highway between Kainantu & Goroka I was with Macair at the time & got the job of taking the 2 coffins there, the locals knew they were coming & gathered at the strip, hundreds if not a thousand or so all in feathers & oil, woman white washed & wailing

could be 'Omph'kalai on the basis that the upwards round-out has to be spot on...hence the typo.
Went there in '70 or thereabouts to get some footage of a huge sing-sing courtesy, PNG Tourist bureau. Mobs, feathers, drums and chaos..in a most spectacular landscape, certainly a day to remember.

In on a C206 and out on a Twotter..spectacular plus !!
Entertaining to see nothing but mountainside out the Twotter front window from down the back.
Was told it was the steepest bush strip in the southern hemisphere..others would know if that is /was correct.
