I note that someone has enquired into the living conditions in Lae in another thread and had to smile at a post that Chuckles made. (#11)
Which in turn made me remember of some of the other stories of incidents of general mayhem comitted by Talair/Douglas/any other company in PNG/ Pilots.
I can remember the time when taking my newly acquired S&W Pistol to the Firearms Dept. to be registered and was told by the Officer doing the paperwork that I would not be (legally) able to also use it as part of my survival (read personal protection) gear. When I asked why not he told me that.....'not so long ago it was permitted but then one day some Talair Pilots were very naughty and started having target practice from a balcony of one of their houses.'
The story got very interesting after that! How I managed to keep a straight face and not start ******* myself laughing is something I still wonder about!

Air Niugini
Hi Guys,
Just after some help. I have an interview comming with Air Niugini soon, It definitely involves a sim session and I guess a panel interview.
If anyone could give me a " heads up" on what I might expect, or any suggestions,it would be greatly appreciated.
I tried a forum search with no luck.
Feel free to PM me
Thanks in advance.

From what I hear all new applicants will be Moresby based..and no more tours contracts either apparently...an interesting reversal...forget the BNE, CNS basings for the time being.

Thanks Chimbu!,
That certainly puts a different spin on things, I'd heard they were still basing alot of guys in CNS. I guess I'll be finding out soon enough.
Two Dogs,
try [email protected]
Cheers

Aussie 02; This is the only one I have scanned at present; there may be one or two more in my album but here is a piccy taken about 16 years ago of two expensive pieces of scrap metal on the tarmac outside the Douglas Airways offices at Jackson Field.
Silly Old Git
This story was related to me by a fella standing in front of me in a queue at Steamships one day.
Once upon a time long taim ago a pilit on early morning start very tired and sleepy and emotional dispensed with formalities bounded into the cockpit of a Nomad and kicked #2 in the guts.
Hmmm bit of noise but no light up .... right-ho kicks #1 in the guts WAK !... BANG ! hmmmm no fire
He had successfully sucked in both plywood intake bungs
I think he went on to an illustrious career as a Woolies shelf stacker
Then of course there was the overloaded-c-of-g-about- 20-feet-aft-of-the-tailplane Nomad in Wewak

TwoDogs. I seem to recall Roland is Josephine's brother? If so Google Josephine Abaijah (Dame Josephine Abaijah GCL, DBE), there are a number of references and I'm sure one may give her contact details.
There are a number of Abaijahs listed in the PNG telephone directory here.
Pinky. I've looked and looked at your photo posted above but for the life of me, I can't see your "two expensive pieces of scrap metal"?

Then you are not looking hard enough Torres.
I can see two 44 gallon drums.
I am almost certain there was a return fee on them...like coke bottles and stuff.

Air Nuigini interviews ?
Has anyone who recently had an interview in Sydney or Port Moresby been offered jobs yet ?
From the number of pilots they require,I figure they will have to put a few guys on hold,as they simply haven't got enough training captains.
Good luck to everyone who had a shot.

Air Niugini Interviews
Hello Duck Pilot,
I know of 2 guys who interviewed and did the Sim in Sydney were given contracts but no start dates. Some were also called to say they were through the selection process and would be offered a start but have recieved nothing since.
I believe the official word from ANG is that they are " reviewing the recruitment process".
I guess it's hurry up and wait!

G'day RC,
I have a couple of good mates that have just been offered jobs with PX. They are both high PNG time pilots currently employed by other operators in country. Having current licences would also help now days as new/old comers have to go through the whole licence procces due to the new rules. From what I can gather, they give the national pilots first preferance at the positions, then fill the remaining places with expats.

G'day WW,
What you say does'nt surprise me. I'd heard about the new licences too. By the sound of it unless your either a National or already up there, there is little chance of success.
