A thread where ex PNG geriatrics lapuns and long longs can live in the dim distant past.

Where tall stories are accepted as fact.

War stories are applauded.

Those of you who knew Paul Howard will be pleased to hear that his aviation collection has been donated to the Queensland Air Museum.

Good to hear Fris. I think Muddie's collection would have had a rather large PNG content?

I'm trying to find the words to Larry Danielson's Kunai Grass of Home. Can anyone help?

I seem to recall Larry getting a mention in PPRuNe around the time he passed away in 2013, maybe in this thread? Someone had words of some of his songs?

Did you try our site or thread search function?

It's kind of sad that it's only the old timers that keep this thread alive despite Gen Y having go pros, internet and the like. They have kind of missed the history and heritage of aviating in PNG.

They also have missed out on the fun and games we experienced. That is their real loss.

I suppose it is because the old war stories of the older Pilots and the like are not really that interesting to the younger generation.
They are probably making there own experiences, history and heritage. So they too can avail their successors, no doubt getting a similar reaction.
Just a thought.

Hugh - Martin Ede, there is a name from the past!! What is the photo Olderairhead is referring to with Skippy and Muddy?

Ret Sabala I think you came later and missed the real great developmental days of PNG aviation from the 1950s to the 1980s? It appears the decline started rather rapidly around the time of Talair's demise.

I believe Bob Offner has cancer and there is nothing further than can be done for him. He is resting at home. Those that knew Bob in PNG may wish to contact him.

I reckon Jim Bloom should get recognition by way of the honours system for the life time he has dedicated to the people of Morobe and Gulf. Whilst missionary aviating isn't my cup of tea (I'm one of the other M's that PNG attracts) 25 years later I still remember *southern drawl* 'Sierra Echo Quebec taxi...'

By my calculations he has been flying that same 185 (Sierra-ecker-keebec as he pronounces it) for 40 years.

Not a bad effort.

If my memory is correct, Jim paid either $8,500 or $9,500 for that C185.
