How to transfer a type rating from a foreign ATP to FAA ATP license

Hello All,
Wondered if I could get any advice from any former expats. I have an FAA ATP license however, for the past 10 years have been living and working overseas as an A330 captain. Would like to transfer my A330 type rating onto my FAA ATP. Applied for and received the foreign pilots license verification letter from the FAA. They advise the next step is to visit a local FSDO office. However, when I contacted them they sent me a list of DPEs to contact instead. All the DPEs I have called only deal in transfer of foreign license to FAA private pilot license.

I am trying to avoid having to pay for and fly to the US to take another type ride...If anyone has any advise on how to accomplish this, or a person to contact (all the FAA numbers I call seem to be automated answering machines) for help I would be very grateful!

The FAA will only issue a private certificate based on a foreign license. Some FSDOs have handed that off to local DEs. Since you already hold a FAA ATP you can't go that route. Your will need to go complete an approved ground and flight training program and pass an oral and checkride. With time in type some training centers will conduct a shorter training program. There is no avoiding it at the ATP level.

If you happen to have a Canadian ATP I believe it's a simpler process to get your foreign type rating added to the Canadian license first.
You can then add the type to your FAA based on the Canadian license without any testing

Thank you all for your time and advice!

AC 61-135A covers the FAA-TCCA agreement. It specifically says -

NOTE: Pilot certificates/licenses and ratings issued on the basis of a foreign pilot license are not eligible for conversion under the pilot certification/licensing conversion procedures. For example, if a citizen of the United Kingdom received a TCCA pilot license as part of a conversion process, the TCCA license would have been issued on the basis of the United Kingdom pilot license, and therefore would not be eligible for conversion to an FAA pilot certificate.

Thanks for the info guys,

i got a question if anyone can help

i got a FAA license , the rating on it is 737
I am rated on 747 and 777 and 787 on my foreign license from the Middle East
as far as I know , I need to go thru a reduced course in pan-am to put these rating on my FAA license.
but it’s going to cost me a bomb!

Now its its I convert my FAA to Canadian license. Can I easily put all my other rating into the Canadian license without any training?

and subsequently, if it’s possible.to put all those rating back to FAA license

thank you for the advice in advance

🙏

No

Yes, all you have to do is just pay the fees.

No, that's not possible because Implementation Procedure explicitly states that any license and rating issued by TC on the basis of foreign license are not eligible for transfer to FAA. They must be TC original issue license and ratings.

zondaracer 17th Apr 2019 02:11

To fly a "N" registered aircraft, in another country than the States maybe!? :8

Well that makes sense then. But yeah, no short cuts to add the rating to an FAA certificate. Sorry.

Just be glad you aren't trying to convert your FAA certificate to ESSA.
