Trial Flights out of Las Vegas McCarran KLAS
 

Hi

I've done a few trial lessons in the UK in a small Cessna 152 along with a few normal lessons. I've done these out of East Midlands EGNX.

I'm going to Vegas in a couple of weeks to celebrate my 40th birthday and what I would really like to do as my dream is to do a trial lesson that takes off and lands at McCarran KLAS.

Not fused by a helicopter ride but want a plane trial lesson down a real Vegas runway.

I can find them out of other Las Vegas airports but I'm not bothered about those. What I really want to do is a take off and landing on runway 25L or R or on 1/16

Does anyone know if this is possible and if so could you point me in the right direction.

Doubt if there are flight schools are small aircraft charter outfits at LAS. Might try Henderson airport about six miles south east. Lots of general aviation activity there.

I fear this may be the case but was hoping it wasn't.

Its my dream to take off and land at KLAS.

Are there any other options to get a cockview of a landing/takeoff at KLAS?

Why not rent a Cessna or Piper at North Las Vegas or Henderson and do a full stop/taxi back at LAS?

Or just ask to park at McCarran Signature or Atlantic. I doubt if there is a landing fee at KLAS, but the FBO's will want a fuel purchase or a ramp fee.

If you want to land at KLAS I'm sure there is a CFI that will accompany you!

I concur. Try North Las Vegas (KVGT) or Henderson (KHND).
You can always do a touch and go at KLAS if you pick a time it's not too busy.

$60 landing fee at KLAS last I checked.

KLAS is a class B airport. You won't find a flight school at a class B airport due to separation rules. You would be hard pressed to get a touch and go unless it was late at night. If you flew in from anther airport and asked for a full stop, they would accommodate you but you can expect to pay the steep landing fee + FBO ramp fee.

You could always just do a low pass over the runway. I know it isn't a landing and takeoff but it does get you close. Plus you wouldn't be charged any landing fees. I remember when I was a young student pilot, my instructor and myself did a low pass at STL. It was my home growing up so I thought it was pretty cool.

Just rent a plane and an instructor who wouldn't mind a free lunch in addition to the normal fee. HND or VGT should both have what you need.

You can also call Signature and Atlantic LAS and ask them how much they charge. Their contact info is on their websites. Expect around $60.00 or some amount of $8.00 plus per gallon avgas in lieu of the ramp fee. Then get your $ worth by enjoying all the amenities you can. Have them give a van ride to have lunch somewhere. Be sure to tip the van driver and ramper a few bucks each. (after all, it IS vegas you know...) Don't expect good service on the cheap. Be sure to include a little flightseeing around Boulder and lower Lake Mead. Enjoy the trip.

If after paying for your adventure you still got some money left, then you can have an egg sandwich at the Runway Café.

Henderson have put me in contact with Cactus Aviation who I am contacting to see what they can offer... fingers crossed.

I hadn't heard of Runway Cafe.. Is it open to general public then and is it air side?

I think that the landing fee is a bit more than $60 at McCarran - I went into Henderson about 6 months ago, and heard the figure of several hundred dollars being bandied about for McCarran. Anyway, a phone call to an FBO will tell you the truth. Sounds like a low pass is the way ahead though !

I believe it's still $60 with $45 off with 15 Gal, fuel purchase. With no fuel add $40 to park and $15 security charge. Expect to spend atleast $150 once all the smoke and dust settles.

From personal experience I can say that a business jet does not pay any landing fee at KLAS.
The fbo on the other hand, may charge as much as they want in fees for using their ramp and facilities, especially if you do not purchase any fuel.

We used to practice iFR / ILS approaches at LAS, go missed, head out to the Hoover dam, shoot one more and back to VGT, trick was 3-4 AM, Tower guys, and apc/dpc happy to help.

The instructors are happy for the IFR practice as well.

We used to be able to do strip tours as well, with a pass through the Luxor light,
Steep right turn before 25 R, head back to VGT. Don't know if that's allowed anymore.

PAR approaches into Nellis with a low approach, another fun drill.

Fun times...also Red Rock Canyon mountain flights.
