Lapsed ATPL to FAA ATP

Hi All.

Up until approx. 6 years ago I was an A330 Capt on JAA ATPL, 9k+hrs (inc 5.5k Jet Airbus) lost my class 1 medical and was grounded. I have now regained my class 1 medical and intend to regain my EASA ATPL. But, for personal reasons, I'd prefer to gain an FAA ATP prior to my EASA licence.
So the question is, would any credit be given towards an ATP by the FAA for an applicant who previously held a European ATPL, albeit the ATPL isn't current? and any help pointing me in the correct direction would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Please contact the FAA Field Office in Frankfurt. I've used the one at JFK for validation questions, always got an answer.

The FAA will issue a private VFR only pilot certificate to to the holder of a valid foreign license with no testing or checkride. The first step is to confirm the validity of the foreign license. Without a current license to validate it's a non-starter.

Obviously your hours count. Normally to get a FAA ATP you have to hold a commercial and to get the commercial you have to have a private. With a valid foreign commercial or ATP you can skip the FAA private and commercial. But to get the ATP everyone has to go through the certificate training program, pass the written and pass a checkride. For a type rating on the ATP there has to be a record of ground and flight training.

The FAA guidance for issuing a foreign based certificate is here:

MIB. Thank you for your reply.
I'd checked out Frankfurt and they are just an airworthiness office; the website directed me to New York to speak with the office there.
I acknowledge that exams and flt test would be needed but wondered if there was any dispensation to be had.
Either way I intend to do it, and thanks again for your help.
