FAA Type rating check ride in Canada?

Hi guys,

shortly im going to do the initial flight training for Dash-8-200/-300 in the Flight Safety Toronto.
Im currenty holding FAA CPL licence.
Im curios is there any possibilities to obtain a check ride for FAA type rating in Canada?

But you have to go through the TSA procedure, fingerprinting etc.

flydive1 19th Jun 2014 14:31

Yes, but for a FAA license.

Do i need fingerprinting even if i did it before? I have done AMEL IFR rating last February with American Flyers school in FL, they didnt force me to do fingerprinting.
TSA approval, that is what i didnt think about.
Are there any restrictions for check-ride without course itself, do i need TSA approval anyways?

There's a possibility you'll need TSA "approval"; it depends on your specific situation. For a "new" type rating I think the answer is yes, although you may be eligible for the expedited program. As for the type rating, it has to be a FAA approved training program which (I guess) would run concurrently with your TC (or whatever country your licensed in) approved course. Whether your sim company does this or not - and whether it'll cost you extra - I dunno. You'll need to contact them, and you'll need to set it up well before the training starts. Don't wait until the first day of class.

EDIT: You DON'T need TSA approval if you decide to just go with the original program with no add-on to your FAA certificate. No FAA training then no TSA approval needed. Like the man said above, check with your sim company; they have the definitive information.

Hello,

For an initial or a recurrent regardless you will need TSA application and approval. You can absolutely do an FAA ATPL check ride in Canada, however make sure to coordinate with the training center and again TSA authorization is not an option.
I am surprised your previous school didn't send your for prints as they are mandatory the first time. Did you get authorization in the past already? If yes, then I wouldn't worry about it. If your previous application was denied, I would worry about getting fingerprinted.

Like Rotorhead1026 said: no FAA training, no TSA. but since you mentioned you will do an FAA type rating, then yes you definitely need it.

FYI, I am doing an FAA recurrent training in CAE Toronto on CL65 next week and I had to get my TSA.

MaintainYourHeading,

yes i have already done fingerprinting in 2011 while on zero-to-CPL course. So my recent school said i dont need to do it again. I have to say, that i have done TSA approval before i came to USA last time, thus i wouldnt get a visa as well.

How did you made an TSA approval for recurrent training in Canada, if www.flightschoolcandidates.org doesnt has an option to choose the school outside USA?

The training centre should have all the forms and info you need.

Levashov,

Actually each training center abroad depends on a center in the USA. For example, I did a training on Falcon 900 in Dubai, their training facility is under Dallas. Contact the training center and ask them. They will give you the USA facility to chose from on flightcandidates.org
Indeed you will not need finger printing again. TSA approval will take you 3 or 4 days.
Once you fill out your TSA form on the website, you will need to give your username and password to the training center so that they can process your application. Therefore no matter what, you need to get in touch with your training provider ASAP.

Cheers
