FAA Seeks $2.75M Penalty for Boeing Quality-control Violations...
 

"The FAA is proposing a $2.75 million civil penalty against Boeing for allegedly failing to maintain its commercial airplane quality control system in accordance with approved FAA procedures. In September 2008, Boeing discovered it had been installing nonconforming fasteners on 777s. The following month, the FAA sent Boeing a letter of investigation that requested a response within 20 working days. The FAA alleges that despite repeatedly submitting action plans that set deadlines for the accomplishment of certain corrective actions, Boeing subsequently failed to implement those plans. The OEM implemented a plan to address the fastener issue on Nov. 10, 2010, more than two years after it first learned of the problem. “Manufacturers must make it a priority to identify and correct quality problems in a timely manner,” said FAA Administrator Michael Huerta. Boeing stopped using the nonconforming fasteners after officials discovered the problem. However, some of the underlying manufacturing issues continued to exist until after the corrective action plan was in place. Boeing has 30 days from the receipt of the FAA’s civil penalty letter to respond to the agency."

I wonder if things are going to get worse when they start looking into the 787?

The FAA throws numbers out all the time. They wanted 13.5 million from Boeing this spring for not having a program in place to keep fuel tanks from exploding. They wanted 164 mill from American this spring , they got 24. They wanted 10 from Southwest 5 years ago, they got 7.5.

Yeah, things have gotten much worse. In fact, the FAA should pull Boeings PC for habitual fraud in their quality assurance responsibilities. No fine the FAA can level will get compliance at Boeing. The FAA will never do what is required, however, because they hope to get hired by Boeing for services rendered after minimal time at the FAA.

Last Inspector, looks like you might be new around here? You realize that there is little confidentialy on PPRune should the offended party decide to ask who wrote that piece. It has happened in the past and will probably happen again. Accusing Boeing and the FAA of fraud is sort of like kicking the sleeping dog. If you have proof of these claims, you should talking to the FBI and not making them on some web site that is well known for rumors.

I have no reason to fear "exposure." I have already paid the price for my whistleblowing on FAA/Boeing fraud. You are right. I am not the best at getting out the truth. And your FBI comment is well taken.

That's quite a story. i will be watching to see how that plays out and yes, I have heard other similar stories regarding the 737 production.
