Airlines looking for experienced pilots

Hi there -
Anyone know where somebody with 5000+ hours on 737NG (PIC experience) would have a chance of getting hired?
Where would it make sense to apply?
I am currently holding a European JAR Licence but have a U.S. Green Card. A conversion shouldn't be too difficult...
Currently employed in Germany, I am planning to relocate to the U.S. but don't know where to start...
Maybe someone can help! ;)
Thanks

Korea,India, japan,Air pacific(Fiji),Virgin group(Oz), lots of jobs out there. having said that if all they say about the U.S economy is to be believed then expect pilot furloughs rather than hiring, so if i were a betting man I would go anywhere cept the good Ole US of A.

Good Luck

Nobody is hiring right now except the most desperate of regional airlines that will start you on a salary well below the federal poverty line. There are no good jobs to be had right now. Your credentials, while impressive, are completely irrelevant in the current US job market. As greenslopes said, you need to look anywhere but the US.

Thank you for your answers.
Unfortunately I don't really have a choice - meaning I HAVE to move to the U.S.! (and obviously earn money there...)
Pretty bleek outlook...
Anyway, if anyone has an idea please let me know.

Boeing, well it sounds like the cheeze and kisses has your nuts in a vice.
Good luck mate, just remember allways apologize and start as you mean to go on.

As already said...corporate or part 135 may be the best bet... By the time you get thru the NetJets process you'll probably have lost your medical but there are others... CitationJets are another possibility provided that you don't mind being mistaken for a member of some weird religious cult whenever you don their preferred working garb.

You should apply at Southwest. all 737 fleet, and currently theonly US major airline hiring. They have a big pool right now but it would be worth your time to apply.

as a recently out of work pilot in the US with 7 type ratings and 7000+ hours, I can't get an interview at most places much less a job.. I recently went to a regional airline interview that started its' pilots at $22/hr.. up until last year, they mostly hiring 22 year old kids with 600 hours of small airplane time as FO's.. at my interview was a 23000 hour ATA former L1011 and 757 CA, and two retired USAF guys who were FO's at ATA and Skybus respectively..

BAD job market, worse I've ever seen.

Miami Air is hiring. 6 737-800s (allegedly adding another in Sept), 2 737-400s (first class config for pro sports teams). Compensation less than majors, but livable if TA is approved in June. Plenty of int'l flying (180 min ETOPS on the -800s). One 737 in AMS flying for Transavia this summer (full complement of Miami Air crews front & back), another at XL in the UK. Not everyone's cup of tea, but good variety of flying and fun can be had...

Boeingrulz, another hope for you is Virgin America, but than you might have to change your user id to Airbusrulz:8

I had a Virgin American guy on the jumpseat last week - he said they are still taking deliveries and hiring for the foreseeable future. Only domicile is SFO. They do transcon flying and start out of ORD to SFO/LAX in November.

Any new thoughts/ideas on this?

Just wanted to move this thread back up to see if anyone has any news on the current hiring situation for a guy like me (8000+hrs 737 captain) in the U.S.?
Thankful for any input!

sonicguy 10th Feb 2013 10:29

US Airways has been hiring but they still haven't totally sorted out the US Air/America West merger, no telling what will happen if they merge with American.

skidbuggy 11th Feb 2013 16:41

Bluejet is accepting applications in a brief window. I'm not sure what the timeline is. Apparently they are hiring into the two fleet types they operate, but I've been told the terms and conditions for pilots are most dreadful.

Good luck

Hiring

Us Airways is hiring, they have been for awhile now. They are to announce a merger this week with American Airlines, which if it happens, will be the largest airline in the world. I also heard that American will be hiring again as soon as all their furloughed pilots are called back, which is in the process. It might be worth your effort to apply, it sure doesn't hurt.

Also, both airlines agreed to pay increases and other things, (to prepare for the merger) so it is looking up. Pay is pretty good now!

Sounds like you are sitting it out on reentry permits and waiting for the right job to pop up. I think there comes a time when you might not get the reentry. Have you got FAA ATP yet? You didnt say if you have been applying or not but if you have and are not getting anywhere it may be because you do not hold the certificates they want.
