Dear pilots from US.

I have a honest question.
I am about to become a green card holder and one of a thousands of immigrants seeking better life in US.
I would like to continue my career there.
Where should I start?

I am with total of 5000 Hrs FO. mostly on heavy and medium jets.
JAR FCL license. Have some Biz and FI experience
I am familiar with the FAA requirements for the ATPL issuance and already started the process...

Which part of the US is the best for pilot's life and progression.
Regionals? Biz? Majors?
I am not that much into money, more for the upgrade however I need to feed my wife and kid.

Advices?

If you are intending to fly professionally in the US.....Don't, the industry is tanking and it's only going to get worse.

Look, I'm really not trying to sound pessimistic but we have a perfect storm here in American aviation; the US dollar is tanking, the economy is in the $hitter and oil is at, what about $126 a barrel.

I have friends hired at United and NWA and they're all talking about furloughs numbering hundreds by the end of the year.

This is not the promised land as far as aviation is concerned..

I would like to know what is the situation in the US. A few airlines closed the door recently and many pilots are looking for a new job. Can the US aviation industry absorbs them or it is the start of a new down?

Things may not be as bad as they seem, it just depends where you choose to look. Certainly the airlines are in terrible shape but things are quite different in the corporate world.
With plenty of jet time there are plenty of companies hiring. You may have to go in as a co-pilot and the upgrade times may vary but if you are flexible on where you are willing to live there are definately jobs out there. In fact if you look at the new contracts at Net Jets, FlexJet etc you will see that salaries are actually rising.

Jet Airways is looking for LAX based crews.

CX is interviewing for LAX,SFO,YVR,YYT,& JFK.

Virgin America is interviewing for positions in SFO.

Most other airlines have stoped hiring at the present and I would hope management is evaluating whether to cut domestic capacity. International should have slight growth.

Most regionals are hiring if you would like to find about the lack of welfare system in the US and the food stamp program.

That is the quintessential element of capitalism, that what makes "America" great and keeps alive the fire of "The American Dream." That along with donuts, porn, and Popeye's Chicken (not necessarily in that order). :ugh:
