Upgrade on UA?

Hey All,

Is it possible to get an upgrade on UA (Y to J), might be flying them for a single sector flight in Asia, I know this may be a silly question but the airline I work for there is NO CHANCE, you're more likely to get a downgrade for being staff, I thought UA would probably treat airline employees somewhat better.

Cheers.

You're kidding, right?

This depends on the agreement your company has with United. You need to check your own company's travel manual and look at the details of the agreement for Interline travel on UAL.

Whatever gave you that impression? :}
Seriously, who do you work for?

Unless memory fails me, he is a pilot for Cathay Pacific. A lot of the Fragrant Harbour folks have been largely absent from the recent decline of the American airline environment. I've talked to several people from over there who are genuinely shocked that the deal Cathay offers is as good as it is by comparison.

In answer to the OP: Going on the assumption that you are still CX, I can say that your chances of an upgrade to J on UA are just about nil. As a matter of fact, getting a jumpseat at all on any US airline when you aren't in the Cockpit Access Security System is a bit dicey these days.

non-rev travel on UA

Most UA agents will try to put non-revs into J class if there are seats open. Since the economy is usually oversold, 1st or business is usually where open seats are (assuming you are traveling internationally on the 3 class aircraft).

Good luck!

There's a chance.

It never hurts to identify yourself to the crew as a flight crewmember. I think some of them would like to know that. Sometimes that works in your favor.
